A cell with no exit. (Chapter 1)
A tiny green leaf rustled under her hand, but she didn't hear it. She didn't care about anything or anyone, not even the gaze of the boy staring at her, who, though he was probably embracing his girlfriend, was staring at her unambiguously. But as I said before, she didn't care. She stared blankly at the trees in front of her.
"He's gone... there's only me."
She said to herself, "Let them think I'm crazy," she thought, smiling to herself again. But the sky kept reminding her of the events of a month ago, yesterday, she remembered everything... Her cell phone started ringing, but she no longer cared. She didn't care that no one was left in the park, that the sun was starting to set. I've already told her she didn't care. "I'm not here..." she thought, closing her eyes. She couldn't hear anything anymore... she didn't even hear the rustle of leaves under someone's feet, and yet she was known for her perfect hearing. Lost in apathy, she no longer felt anything, not even the hand on her mouth or the hands pulling her back… Unconscious, she no longer felt anything, not even the rapid movement of the truck, immersed in a world of blackness and flashing stars…
* "
They brought her in already.
" "Did she say anything?"
Krystian raised his head from the bench. Tired from the day, but he knew he had to face what awaited him. He had planned it all himself. When he learned he had been assigned this case, he couldn't believe his luck. Finally, a chance to wash away the shame… "Who would have thought it would all end like this?"
-Let the boss see her himself.
"Or rather, he'll start," he thought, rising from his desk. "
I told you, I don't want to see her yet! Examine her and put her in one of the rooms!"
-But boss...
-Execute her!
"Who are they giving me here? All these little brats." He sat back down, not wanting to see her yet. It wasn't time yet. The doctor had arrived.
"When will she be ready for questioning?
" "What kind of questioning do you have in mind, Krystian?"
Kuba was leaning against the doorframe. They were the same age, they'd once gone to the same high school, but Krystian looked older, more weary of life.
"Who knows, I might have to push her."
The thought made his stomach turn. "It's necessary," he repeated over and over again. "
Do as you wish, you know my opinion. And she's healthy, not like the others."
"That's good."
Krystian felt a sense of relief. He was worried they'd find her… find her in the same condition as the others.
"But remember, she's only a woman." "I
know that all too well."
He looked out the window. The middle of the forest, no one could find them. The Investigation Group's secret hideout.
"Go to Ewelina now, or she'll be worried."
"Ewela's in London."
"A course?
" "No, she's visiting her parents. Shall we go for a beer?"
Krystian dreamed of nothing else.
"I can't, man, the service."
"I sympathize, in your condition, a few beers would only help."
"I have to be on full alert at all times."
They shook hands, exchanged a few more words, and Kuba left. And Krystian returned to his post, unsure what he was waiting for, sitting by the phone. After all, they had her… and… the Black Sheep had been murdered. the Black Sheep… what had he done to her…
*
She sat in the corner of the room, nothing mattered to her. She didn't know where she was, but anything was better than this apartment filled with his perfume. That's why she'd moved out, that's why she'd run away, that's why she'd done it… Two powerful men entered her room—as ridiculous as it sounds, a room, or rather a cell, solitary confinement. "
You'll come with us.
" She didn't say a word, "let them do what they want." As I said, nothing mattered to her. They sat her down at a metal table. They asked some questions, but she didn't answer. She stared at the glass, which reflected the cold walls of the room she was in. She began to focus on one spot; she knew someone was standing there. "A one-way mirror," she thought. She knew where he was, or rather, guessed. But what good would it do?
*
"Boss, it won't do any good, she won't say anything. We have to start...
" "No,"
he said resignedly. She was too intelligent, besides, she knew too much about both sides.
"I'll talk to her."
"Boss, you said not yet..."
"But now I say I'll question her! Order them all to leave with that one. Do it!"
He was slowly losing patience, or maybe he was actually dreading this encounter. Maybe this very thing..."
*
His perfume filled the room, tinged the damp air with a sweet scent, and for a moment she felt like she used to... "
Hello, Karolina."
She didn't answer, just looked into his eyes, just for a moment, then closed her eyes and shut out the world. She could have done it before, why not now? She felt his gaze on her, and for the first time in a long time, something moved her. For the first time, she cared… For the first time, she felt… she felt that she still loved him.
