Lidka, open the door."

"
This story happened 10 years ago in St. Petersburg.

Shortly after Marina remarried, her baby girl Katyusha was born. Marina had a seven-year-old son, Semyon, from her first marriage. Marina was an only child and lived in a communal apartment with her parents on the seventh floor before her marriage.

Marina's neighbors in the communal apartment were relatives—her aunt, her aunt's husband, and her cousin, Lidiya. The apartment had three rooms: Marina and her parents lived in one, her aunt and her family in the second, and her grandmother, who had recently died of peritonitis in a hospital in St. Petersburg, occupied the third.

The day of the funeral arrived. Marina stayed home with the children; all the relatives went to the cemetery. She was sitting in the room with the children. The baby was snoring softly on the bed, and her eldest son was playing with his cars. She heard shuffling footsteps in the hallway. Marina peeked out of the room, and the footsteps had stopped. A cold sweat immediately broke out on the young woman as she realized the shuffling sound was remarkably similar to the way her grandmother had walked in life.

She locked the room, grabbed the children, and hugged them. The footsteps came again. Her son asked Marina:

"Mom, who's that?"

Marina burst into tears, and her son, startled by his mother's tears, also began to cry. The baby woke up.

Marina screamed:

"Grandma, stop, you're scaring us!"

The footsteps disappeared.

The incident was almost forgotten, but a few days later something happened that still makes the hairs on your neck stand on end. After her grandmother was buried, Lidiya, Marina's cousin, moved into her grandmother's room. That night, the silence was broken by Lidka's loud scream.

When the relatives entered the room, Lidiya was sitting on the bed, shaking as if she had a fever.

She was almost asleep when she heard a faint knock on the window. She got out of bed, pulled back the curtain, and saw a shadow on the loggia. Then she heard a familiar voice:

"Lidka, open the door! Let me in, I'm cold! I want to go to my own bed."

They had to thoroughly walk through the rooms to get rid of all the restless ghost's belongings. He never appeared again.
