The Science of Miracles
Helen Schucman's now famous book "A Course in Miracles" was also a product of channeled messages from spirit.
Perhaps not everyone knows that Helen Schucman's now-famous book, "A Course in Miracles," was also a product of channeled messages from spirit. The book was infused and popularized by Marianne Williamson's interpretation of the work in "Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles" and subsequent books.
Helen Schucman was a professor and psychologist at Columbia University who claimed to have channeled the contents of a book for seven years in trance states. She claimed the author was none other than Jesus Christ himself, who dictated his "new gospel" to her to correct errors in commonly accepted scriptures and some Church teachings.
As might be expected, this statement led to criticism of "A Course in Miracles" by mainstream religions (some even labeling it demonically inspired). However, the publication attracted interest in other circles, primarily through Williamson's books and lectures. Her message is devoid of demonic elements—the book deals with love, forgiveness, and spiritual growth.
Mark Twain - NO
One of the most notable failures in the case of alleged channeling from a deceased writer came from Emily Grant Hutchings, who published "Jap Herron: A Story Written by the Ouija Board" in 1917. Hutchings claimed that the novel was written by contacting none other than Mark Twain himself via Ouija. The revered author of such classics as "Huckleberry Finn" died in 1910.
Critics, however, were not impressed with Hutchings' book, pointing out its amateurish literary qualities, and the novel itself was withdrawn from the market - although today it can be found on Amazon, also in a free electronic version for the Kindle reader.Explanations and DIY
How can the astonishing achievements of these writers be explained? There are several possibilities:
- We can assume that writers from the afterlife or other dimensions actually wrote their works through these people - for some unknown reason they chose them to create these works through an unknown channel on another plane of existence.
- These people were somehow able to receive knowledge (which they supposedly did not possess) telepathically from living artists or authors who had the ability to create such works.
- They had the ability to enter the collective unconscious and the collective memory that can permeate all of us and create these special works.
These people were exceptional savants. Like savants possessing astonishing, unexplained abilities in mathematics, for example, these people exhibited unusual development or activity in certain areas of the brain that allowed them to create these works of art with apparent ease... while remaining a mystery even to themselves
