Can wise men see the future?

Nostradamus spoke several times in his writings about his prophetic gift. In the preface to his son's letter, he speaks of the divine inspirations he received when on certain days he was in a lymphatic (i.e., ecstatic, prophetic – note ZP) mood, and of the long (astrological) calculations with which he sweetened his nocturnal studies. In the preface to his letter to Henry II, he mentions that he calculated his prophecies according to the movement of the heavenly bodies and with the help of a revelation that visited him at certain moments, a gift "inherited from his ancestors." He also said that he combined this natural and inherited intuition, instinct, with long, tedious calculations. In these moments, he tried to free his soul, spirit, and mind from all care, worry, and excitement, through the peace and balance of his own interior.

These revelations of Nostradamus are significant because they allow us to consider him as an unquestionable sage. All sages value spiritual peace, placing it on the highest pedestal of values, allowing for a truly clear view of the world and the laws that govern it. Being a sage and knowing the past makes it very easy to predict the future, even without possessing clairvoyant qualities. That this may indeed be the case is evidenced by an episode involving the famous Chinese sage Confucius.

One of Confucius's students once asked him if it was possible to predict the future ten generations in advance. Confucius replied that a careful study of China's past allows one to discover the truth about what life would be like under the rule of the next dynasties—even a hundred more .
