Once you have the amulet in your hand.

Like any personal item, an amulet or talisman should be cleansed of the "dust" of previously acquired energies. One of the simplest methods recommended by dowsing is to wash such an item by immersing it in lightly salted water while reciting the formula: " I cleanse you so that you may serve me well."

After cleaning, do not let others touch it or clean it again. It should be worn around your neck, or in your wallet, keys, etc. If you wear it around your neck, remove it before going to bed.
