At first, Adam and Weronika weren't emotionally involved in their relationship. However, over the course of several days, they grew closer. They now had a very strong bond. They enjoyed spending time together. They even shared common passions. He had a cat breeding farm at home, and she adored animals
. They loved talking to each other. It brought them great pleasure. With each passing day, they understood each other better. Even their silences expressed more than words. When they looked into each other's eyes, they saw the seeds of happiness.
Christmas arrived. The day before the holidays, they met. Adam had spent all his free time the day before searching for the perfect gift for Weronika. He came to her with a giant teddy bear. She was very surprised. She gave him a gift from herself. He unwrapped it and, to his surprise, pulled out a beautiful tiger toy.
"It reminded me so much of you, I had to buy it for you," she said. "
You're a sweetheart," Adam replied happily
. The boy was delighted with the gift. He also saw the happiness in Weronika's eyes. The holidays got off to a wonderful start for them. They spent wonderful moments together, filled with love.
Adam invited Weronika over for New Year's Eve. She immediately agreed. His parents were going to a ball that day, so he had the entire apartment to himself. Of course, his guardians had previously given their permission for the guest. Weronika's parents also agreed. Adam, overjoyed, couldn't wait for December 31st. By then, he had thought many things through and decided to declare his love to Weronika. He wanted to do it right after midnight.
On New Year's Eve, Adam was constantly finalizing everything. He didn't want any mishaps. He wanted everything to go according to the plan he had devised.
The apartment was deserted. Adam was left alone, waiting for Weronika. She arrived on time. She hadn't arrived alone; her father had given her a ride.
As soon as she entered, she was greeted with joy by Adam. He was just waiting for her arrival. Weronika greeted him, then the animals, who surrounded her and began to fawn over her. Petting five cats is a real feat, and she managed it. She entered the room where dinner was waiting.
Time flew by. Finally, the clock hands began to overlap at twelve. Midnight struck, and Adam opened the champagne. He poured some champagne into the glasses and made a toast. A moment later, he told Weronika,
"I have only one dream: your happiness. You are my angel. Teddy bear, I love you."
The girl was speechless. No one had ever spoken those words to her like that. No one had ever professed their love to her from the heart. Usually, there was always a hidden catch behind those words.
After a few moments, Weronika approached Adam and, with a tear in her eye, hugged him. They cuddled like kittens before bed. They spent the rest of the evening that way. They barely spoke at all. The silence spoke louder than any conversation.
Weronika's father arrived. Before leaving, she tenderly said goodbye to Adam. The date ended. Adam cleaned up after dinner and went to bed. But something kept him awake. He couldn't pinpoint what. However, he had a strange premonition. His strategist mind told him to anticipate upcoming events.
Adam spent the entire night thinking. He had found a solution for every eventuality. He was confident.
The next day, Adam's parents called. They said the driver was so drunk they wouldn't be back until tomorrow. Adam wasn't surprised. He spent the entire day thinking about Weronika. He wondered how to make her happy. Adam didn't want to evoke a fleeting smile with gifts; he wanted Weronika to be happy all the time. He came to several conclusions. He had everything planned out. He was ready for anything to fulfill his dream.
Adam's parents didn't return until January 2nd. That day, Adam was at school. He met his beloved. Their relationship had changed somewhat since New Year's Eve. When discussing the future, they used "we" instead of "I." His classmates envied Weronika. She was treated like a goddess, and Adam was treated the same way by her. It was clear they had a future, and perhaps nothing could tear them apart. They weren't so sure about the future. They were realistic and knew everything was still ahead of them.
On January 3rd, Weronika celebrated her seventeenth birthday, and Adam had prepared for it meticulously. Knowing her weakness for stuffed animals, he bought her a cute dog. He managed to put a smile on her face again. The day passed happily.
The end of the first semester was inevitably approaching. Valentine's Day was approaching along with the winter break. That day, they shared a warm hug and a kiss. Adam asked Weronika on a date to the cinema. She gladly accepted. Right after school, they went to a screening. At the cinema, Adam gave her a Valentine's Day gift. She also had something nice for him. When the screening started, they cuddled up together and, gazing at the screen, thought fondly of each other.
Right after the screening, they decided to take a walk in a nearby park. They walked together along the snow-covered paths. They talked and laughed. Suddenly, Weronika saw someone on the horizon. She immediately ordered them to change direction. Adam asked who it was. She only said it was someone she didn't want to meet.
However, the mysterious figure stopped the couple.
"Get out of here!" the girl said
. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your boyfriend?" the man asked menacingly.
Adam hid Weronika behind his back with a wave of his hand.
"Are you looking for happiness?" the boy asked
. "Calm down. I have business with this lady, not you." the man replied firmly
. "This lady doesn't want to talk to you. Get out of here, or you'll regret it
." Adam threatened. "Okay, I'm going now. Don't get so worked up. Weronika, I'll be back." With that, the man left.
A moment passed, and the boy managed to gather his strength.
"Thank you," the frightened girl said
. "You're welcome. Please tell me who he is?" Adam asked calmly
. "I have to tell you something. I thought they'd left me alone. But apparently not," he said with a contrite expression. The boy hugged her and motioned for her to continue. "This guy's a guru. I used to be in a cult," she finished and began to cry.
"Misia. Why are you crying?" the boy asked
. "They said they couldn't kill me, but they could destroy my life. Listen." We can't be together because they'll kill you," she said through tears.
"No one will kill me. That guy must have scared you somehow. It's just a psychological trick to keep anyone from running away from them. I'm not afraid of them. I'll be fine," he began to reassure her.
"I hope you won't regret this. Think again if you want to be with me," she finished.
Adam began to calm and comfort her. He'd heard a lot about cults and knew full well that he was under sentence. However, he had a plan. All he had to do was reconnect with his old friends. He'd tell them about the whole affair and ask who would want to join the cult. Then the boy would have all the information about his opponent. In such a situation, he'd just call the police and tell them where the cult was located, and they'd do the rest.
But will Adam find such a madman? The cult has tentacles everywhere. They'd immediately guess who betrayed him. Adam needed a perfect actor. A good plot, and suspicion would fall on someone else. However, this takes time.
