The last day of school promised to be wonderful for Weronika and Adam. On the first day of summer break, they were supposed to go to a camp together. Their parents hadn't agreed to the vacation because they didn't trust them enough yet.
The day passed with a question mark. They didn't know what awaited them on the trip. However, they were eager to go, as it offered them a chance to spend many moments together.
The day of departure was quite hectic. Packing and checking to make sure everything was in place. Weronika and Adam couldn't wait to get on the bus and set off. They were going to a three-week camp on the Kashubian lakes.
Weronika was passionate about Kashubia and loved that region. As soon as Adam saw the forests, he began to share her opinion.
The trip didn't drag; on the contrary, it seemed very short. They spent the ride talking and tickling each other. On the bus, they relieved the tension of the morning's packing.
When they arrived, they were all smiling. Immediately after arriving, they went to the cafeteria and then to the pavilion, where they would live for the next three weeks.
As soon as Adam entered the room, he left his things and ran to Weronika. He knew which room he had to go to, because she had already received the key. As soon as the boy entered the room, he ran to Weronika and hugged her. A moment later, he kissed her, and time stood still for them. That seemingly short moment stretched on forever.
Suddenly, their teacher entered the room.
"Good. Romeo, get away from her already," he said cheerfully.
The couple used their standard defense in such situations—a smile. "
Okay, stop brushing your teeth. Do whatever you want, just don't let the little ones see."
The teacher's words surprised Adam and Weronika. They suddenly felt that this would be the most beautiful time of their lives.
Every day, the boy woke up at seven and went to greet his beloved with a kiss. They spent entire days walking in the forest and in their room, where, besides conversation, there was also room for passion. Around midnight, the lovers said goodbye. On the third day, Weronika asked Adam to go with her to the lake. He agreed, and in the evening, the couple, led by Adam, went for a walk. When they reached the shore, Weronika began preparing to say something to Adam. It was visible in her eyes. She wanted to say something, but at the same time, she couldn't. Suddenly, she began to whisper,
"When I was very little, maybe six years old, I made a promise with this lake. I decided to bring my future husband to its shores. That's exactly what I did. As long as there's water and life in it, I will love you." Weronika blushed, and the boy was speechless. After a moment, he hugged her.
The girl smiled and snuggled in. After a few moments, they heard the teacher's voice
. "I can't. You're back to your old self. How long have you been together, exactly?
" "Over six months," the boy replied
. "A long time. You know, when I look at you like that, I'm starting to regret a certain decision.
" "What?" the girl asked
. "At school age, studying dictated the rhythm of my life. Now I see how much I've missed. I don't bother you anymore. Oh! One more thing, remember to come over for dinner, and don't let the wolves eat you," the teacher said.
Time passed wonderfully. Each day was proof of their love. One day, one of Adam's roommates started talking to Weronika in a vulgar way. "
Jacek, calm down," the boy said politely .
"What?" he asked angrily
. "No one will insult Weronika in front of me." He replied menacingly
. "Why? You like that bitch.
" "Shut up, or you'll regret it," Adam threatened
. "Look." "Rycerzyk, he'll try to sell me a slap. I'll cut that bitch of yours off."
The boy was a bit confused, not even understanding what was going on. In defense of her words, he swung at Jacek and hit him. A brief scuffle ensued. Suddenly, Jacek pulled a knife from his backpack.
"Put that away!" Adam said.
Jacek lunged at the boy, but he defended himself, and the knife lodged in the attacker's leg. "
I warned you," Adam said.
An ambulance was called to the center, and the counselors launched an investigation to determine who started it and what the excuse was. At that moment, Adam also learned what Jacek was up to. During the boy's brief absence, Jacek approached Weronika and wanted to kiss her. However, she refused and threw him out of the room, slapping him first.
After a brief investigation, the counselors concluded that Adam had acted in a fit of passion, and that Jacek was the aggressor, who was subsequently expelled from the camp.
The rest of the camp was wonderful for Adam and Weronika. At the end of their stay, the boy was still shocked by the words he'd heard at the lake.
The couple returned from their vacation radiant and bursting with happiness. After returning home, they met every day. They went to the park for a walk or to the cinema to see an interesting film.
One day, Weronika called her boyfriend. In tears, she asked,
"Adam, is that you?
" "Yes, what happened?" he asked, concerned.
"Nothing. I had a fight with my mother," she replied, and cried even harder.
"Are you sure you're okay?
" "I'm sure you are, I wanted to hear your voice to calm down," she replied.
Adam sensed that something was wrong with her.
"Misia, what time is it?" he asked, anxious to make sure Weronika was okay.
"I don't know."
"What do you mean, you have a portable phone?"
"I know, I know, but I can't tell the time.
" "Misia, tell me what happened?!" Adam insisted
. "My eyes hurt. My mother got angry with me because I didn't wash the dishes properly and, in her anger, she poured something in my eyes. Help me, please," she said in a pleading voice, through tears
. "I'll be there soon. Don't panic, and under no circumstances rinse your eyes with water!"
Adam was afraid that the irresponsible mother had poured some laundry detergent or something foamy in the girl's eyes. The boy called an ambulance and rode his bike to her.
Adam pedaled as hard as he could. He accelerated to a speed unimaginable for the average cyclist. That's why he had to pull into the fast lane, because the cars there were traveling at similar speeds. He arrived at her house, barely alive, just before the ambulance arrived. He examined Weronika's eyes, then brought the girl downstairs, where a paramedic was just arriving.
"What happened to her?" the doctor asked.
"Laundry detergent got in her eyes," Adam replied
. The ambulance took the girl to the hospital. The boy immediately went to the emergency room, where Weronika was taken.
