Recovered sight

A surprising report from November 14, 2002, published by the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, tells of a woman who miraculously regained her sight during childbirth.

Twenty-nine-year-old Mona Ramdal was born with toxoplasmosis, an infection that can cause vision or brain damage in infancy. Because of the infection, Mona's right eye always had poor vision, and when she turned 13, her other eye also began to fail. Ultimately, Mona had only 15 percent vision, with residual vision in her left eye and no vision at all in her right eye.

But when Mona became pregnant, a series of miraculous events occurred. The sight in her left eye began to return. By the time her daughter, Anne-Mathe, was born in 2001, Mona's sight had fully returned. Within months of Anne-Mathe's birth, Mona enrolled in driving school and passed her driving test on her first attempt.

Dr. Per Hvamstad, who has cared for Mona Ramdal since she was a child in the 1970s, said he had never read or heard of a similar case of pregnancy restoring lost vision. Since the retina is medically defined as part of the brain , Dr. Hvamstad explained, once it's destroyed, it can never be restored. That's why, in his opinion, restoring sight to someone like Mona Ramdal, where it was very weak, should be considered a miracle
