Searching for a Vision

During his visions, he will encounter his guardian spirit [or ally - translator's note]. In a dream or vision, this spirit usually appears in the form of an animal and endows the mystic with special powers. He will be taught the spirit's song and given many talismans—eagle feathers, shells, animal parts. These will bestow new powers on the mystic and serve divination. He will keep them in a sacred bag, better known as a "medicine bundle." The mystic will, of course, be concerned with much more than just his own relationship with the supernatural. In traditional, primitive tribes, he will also be a bridge between his people and the guardian spirit.
