Destiny Part I
Sara and Michael had known each other since childhood. It's no wonder, considering they lived not far from each other in a small mountain town.
Michael was three years older than Sara, so when he finished elementary school, he had to start high school in another town, about 30 kilometers away. Sara stayed in Rotary. Alone.
Michael did come to Rotary on weekends, but this didn't give their friendship the same opportunities it once had. The only chance to meet was during vacations and various holidays, which Michael spent at home.
One summer, for some unknown reason, Michael and Sara's paths crossed frequently. They accidentally spent many evenings together, attending the same parties and bonfires. They talked a lot. Honestly. About everything and nothing.
Michael really liked Sara, and maybe even something more.
Sara was walking home alone. It was raining.
Suddenly, a man emerged from a side street and started following her. She became frightened and quickened her pace. The man started running after her, caught up, and grabbed her by the hair.
"Don't struggle, bitch, it's going to hurt," he said, knocking her to the ground.
"Let me go
, you bastard!" "Bastard?! Well, now you'll regret saying that!" He punched her in the face, nearly knocking her unconscious.
Sara tried to defend herself, but the punch left her very limp and unable to fight off her attacker. He ripped off her blouse and was getting at her pants when a car appeared on the street. The driver must have seen what was happening and stopped.
He ran out of the car and pulled the man away from the girl.
Sara realized it was Michael.
"Michael..." she said quietly, then fainted.
Michael subdued the rapist, called the police, and ran to Sara, revived her, and hugged her tightly. Sara was crying, weak and frightened, but she clung to Michael with all the strength she had.
"Michael, thank you." "Don't leave me now, please," she said in a barely audible voice.
"Don't worry, Little One, I won't let anyone hurt you." Michael kissed her forehead.
The police took the bandit away, and after taking care of all the formalities, Michael was able to take Sara home.
He felt incredibly close to her at that moment, and the thought of losing her sent shivers down his spine.
He drove her home and carried her to her room.
"Michael, stay with me until I fall asleep. Please."
"Okay, I'll stay. Sleep, Little One, and think it was just a bad dream. Goodnight." Michael tucked Sara in and kissed her cheek. He sat beside her, holding her hand, until she fell asleep.
She was incredibly grateful to him for saving her. From then on, they became practically inseparable. They were best friends.
They saw each other almost every day now, always having time for each other.
After a few months, it was time to say goodbye. Michael had finished school and was going to university, Sara was going to high school. Michael had to leave for a city 500 km away, where he wanted to finish his long-chosen and dreamed-of law degree. Sara, on the other hand, wanted to become a journalist. "
Call me sometimes, or at least send me a text message, and I'll be more at ease."
"Okay, I promise. But you, too, keep in touch. And remember, if something's wrong, you can come back to me, and I'll help if I can. My home is yours too. Remember."
"I know, and thank you very much for that. Remember, you can always come to me."
"Thanks. I'll remember. Take care and go, or you'll miss your train.
" "Bye, Sara. Take care too."
Michael boarded the train to Solden and departed. Sara watched the departing train for a long time.
"I'll miss it so much," she said quietly, looking one last time at the dark spot that was growing smaller with each passing minute.
