The Art of Filtering Bullshit

In writing this article, I have no intention of discrediting those who, by participating in discussion forums and websites, share truly valuable knowledge, supported by solid arguments, and are truly knowledgeable about the topics they discuss. Thank God, there are many such people, and I commend them for what they do.

Unfortunately, their work receives much less attention than the "achievements" of "experts" writing about conspiracy theories and "hiding the truth." Typically, a person who truly understands a given topic is ignored, as their views and content are at odds with the beliefs of most users. Unfortunately, there are few forums where this situation is completely different—most often, these are forums that could easily be called elitist due to their lower popularity and low user count. Much more popular forums are usually besieged by "neo-kids," who accept the "truth" presented by "experts" at face value and vehemently reject anything that contradicts this "truth" (even if it's well-established facts).

When browsing websites and discussion forums, especially the most popular ones, we must be able to separate truth from "truth." We mustn't take everything for granted. Filtering out obvious nonsense is no easy feat on the Internet, as we are often misled by people spouting wisdom on a topic they truly know nothing about. It's worth consulting professional literature whenever possible to verify whether the authors of the content we're reading even know what they're talking about. Often, this is the only way to separate truth from "truth" and to extract from the online sea of information the truly interesting, well-founded, and noteworthy.
