“When he was approaching Bevagna, he came to a spot where a large flock of birds of various kinds had come together. When God's saint saw them, he quickly ran to the spot and greeted them as if they were endowed with reason. They all became alert and turned toward him, and those perched in the trees bent their heads as he approached them and in an uncommon way directed their attention to him. He went right up to them and solicitously urged them to listen to the word of God, saying: "Oh birds, my brothers, you have a great obligation to praise your Creator, who clothed you in feathers and gave you wings to fly with, provided you with the pure air and cares for you without any worry on your part." While he was saying this and similar things to them, the birds showed their joy in a remarkable fashion: they began to stretch their necks, extend their wings, open their beaks and gaze at him attentively. He went through their midst with amazing fervor of spirit, brushing against them with his tunic. Yet none of them moved from the spot until the man of God made the sign of the cross and gave them his blessing and permission to leave; then they all flew away together. His companions waiting on the road saw all these things. When he returned to them, that pure and simple man began to accuse himself of negligence because he had not preached to the birds before.”
“From there he went preaching through the neighboring districts and came to a village by the name of Alviano. When the people were gathered, he called for silence, but could scarcely be heard above the racket made by some swallows that were building nests there. In the hearing of all the people, the man of God addressed them and said: "My sister swallows, it is time now for me to speak because you have said enough already. Listen to the word of God and keep silence until his message is finished." As if they had been able to understand him, they suddenly became silent and did not move from that place until the whole sermon was finished. All who saw this were filled with amazement and glorified God. News of this miracle spread around everywhere, enkindling reverence for the saint and devotion for the faith.”
“In the district of Arezzo a woman had been in labor for several days and was already near death; there was no cure left for her in her desperate state except from God. Christ's servant was passing through that region, riding on horseback because of physical illness. It happened that when the animal was being returned to its owner, it was led through the village where the woman was suffering. When the men of the place saw the horse on which the holy man had been mounted, they took off the reins and placed them on the woman. As soon as the reins touched her, all danger miraculously passed, and she gave birth safely.”
