Wounded Knee

The Ghost Dance movement grew in popularity, causing white invaders to fear the rise of Native American nationalism. The following year, it all came to an end with the infamous Wounded Knee Massacre.

Black Elk was sent to a reservation in South Dakota. Years later, Neihardt witnessed Black Elk's final spiritual vigil, when he met the Forefathers. He apologized to them for failing to mend the sacred circlet. He knew, like the rest of his tribe, that their path in life had ended.
