The Girl in the Window
It happened on the night of March 12, 2010, in the apartment where I live alone. As usual, I read a book that evening and was getting ready for bed around 11 o'clock. I just decided to get some water before bed. My apartment is quite large, and to get to the kitchen, you have to go through the living room, and the light switch is on the other side of the room. So I moved blindly, using memory as my guide. I reached the kitchen, turned on the small light, and poured myself some water...
I turned around—and saw a girl reflected in the window, standing right in front of me, although no one else was there. I thought I was imagining it and rubbed my eyes—the girl was still there. I started to get scared. I decided to quickly return to my room. Naturally, I kept my eyes fixed on the reflection in the window, and she followed me. I almost ran out of the kitchen, hearing distinct footsteps behind me. I ran into my room, slammed the door, propped it shut with a chair, and dove under the covers, just like I did as a child.
The doorknob started twitching. I don't know why I didn't turn on the light, but the switch was still right next to the door, and I was afraid to go back in. After a while, the handle stopped moving, and there was a lull. It lasted no more than five seconds, then there was a sharp, powerful slamming sound against the door. I crawled completely under the covers and passed out—I don't know how it happened.
When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I noticed was the door was open. Yesterday's events seemed like a nightmare, and I thought I'd dreamed it all. But as I got closer to the door, I noticed a small knife lying under it, something I'd never owned before. I got seriously scared, quickly got dressed, ran out of the apartment, and went to a friend's place. Naturally, he didn't believe me, but he refused to spend the night with me. I wasn't in a hurry to return to my apartment that day either.
