Tug-tug-tug
Maybe I kicked myself in my sleep. It didn't matter—the important thing was that I was lying on the bed, freezing like an idiot, because the blanket had fallen to the floor. It had almost completely fallen off, save for a lone corner that had caught on the edge of the bed.
I grabbed that corner and suddenly felt the familiar fear from childhood: that by going to bed without a blanket, I was becoming vulnerable to all sorts of otherworldly horrors. Laughing at this fear, I tugged the blanket toward me, trying to lift it onto the bed with one jerk.
No such luck. It was as if it was stuck.
One more tug, and the blanket slowly began to come free, and I began to tug at it, trying to ignore the stupid feeling of mounting fear. Tug. Tug-tug-tug... There! Finally! The blanket was fully returned to the bed, and I covered myself with it, laughing at how I'd nearly shit myself over such a trivial matter. However, before I could drift off to sleep, something tugged at the blanket from the side where it had just fallen.
Tug-tug-tug.
