Then the theories encounter a problem
By firmly linking theory to data, a degree of subjectivity is based on the objective facts we observe. Is it possible that these "facts" can then be manipulated to give a false impression of the reality we observe?
Certain areas of paranormal research suggest this is indeed the case. The idea of the "experimenter effect" in particular could have this value. Essentially, the theory is based on a person's expectations of what the outcome might be—for example, how reality will behave.
