Late

I can't even remember the last time it rained so much...

The world was gone. The narrow streets of Vevey quickly turned into rushing streams. All around, a quiet, muffled roar and an extraordinary rhythm in the cold rain...
I saw her. She was sitting alone at a small table. She was a young blonde. She was clearly waiting for someone. Soon, an older man appeared in the doorway. He was wearing a long, soaked coat. He stood there for a moment, then began looking around. He approached the girl.
I wanted to approach her, say hello. But when I approached, they started arguing. Yes, she was clearly trying to explain something to him. They argued so much that I stopped. I decided not to get involved in other people's affairs...
Two weeks later, she had a terrible car accident. They said alcohol was the cause, of course. I don't believe them. No – not anyone but her. She never drank... she had her own principles, which she stuck to. In my opinion, he was to blame. He was to blame for her death. Well, he's gone now, and so is she.
And what do you think? Well, we'll never know what really happened.
Look over there, by the wall. You see that woman in the green sweater. That's Mery... her mother. She was devastated by the loss of her daughter. Since then, she hasn't left the house for a moment. She only appears here occasionally. She says there's still a trace of her here. It's strange. Every time I come here, I try to remember her. I know, I know, she always sat there by the window, but I don't remember her face. Maybe her silhouette... as if something stubbornly prevented me.
And now, look at that guy in the black jacket behind us. Come closer, I'll tell you something... That's Mery's husband, I mean... they were—they divorced a good few years ago. He was quite a dad. He was always gone, and when he was, apparently, it wasn't very happy either. Constant arguments... some even said he beat her. But you know how people like to gossip. They hear something, then twist it—and in the end, the whole town knows...
Anyway, I feel sorry for that girl. She was always so nice to everyone, so kind. She could help anyone, but she couldn't help herself. I often saw the sadness in her eyes, which she hid behind her brown eyes. How damn unfair this world is.
It's time for me to go, it was nice to talk to you again.
You haven't been in our Vevey for a long time. A lot has changed since you left.
Keep an eye on Mera, don't take your eyes off anyone. Be less on your guard.
I know something's going to happen soon—everything points to it.
I can feel it.
I'm sure of it.

The storm is coming again. Just like back then... you remember, right?
She was sitting right there, right by the window (...)
