The entire world she had painstakingly built over so many years collapsed in an instant. It collapsed when she learned she was alone. The intricate pieces from which she had crafted her life crumbled, leaving nothing behind. Emptiness. A gray reality. It seemed everyone at the wall was close to her, but in truth, she knew no one. Besides, no one there truly knew anyone. No one desired such familiarity; the hunger behind the next twist was all that mattered. Maybe at first... They used to come alone, but later, only their addiction attracted them. She was younger than them, less experienced, less addicted. They supposedly tolerated her, but she wasn't one of them, not on their level. That's always the case. Whenever we face a serious problem, we are left completely alone, without a helping hand. Because today, a helping hand is like a leprechaun. It's just a fairy tale for well-behaved children. Or for those who believe.
The little one was closest to her. Just like her, abandoned. No one loved him, he had no one. And he was just like her. Her age, with the same problems as hers. She went to the wall. She knew she was going there for the last time. Now she knew it wasn't the place for her. She was younger than them all, and yet so much older, with so much baggage of experience. A farewell twist. They understood. They knew without words that she wouldn't be coming back. Everyone came and went. There were no strict constraints. Everyone was free, and valued their freedom in their own way. She left without a word of farewell. No one turned to look at her, no one called out. Only after a moment did she hear quiet footsteps behind her. She didn't look back. She knew who was following her. True friends are known in times of poverty. They met in the deepest times of poverty. They both were at their lowest. Little One followed her.
