At night, in the market square in Nowy Sącz, you can encounter the apparition of a man who, in the seventeenth century, was considered one of Europe's most renowned alchemists. It is Michał Sędziwój who haunts the places where he spent his boyhood and supposedly received his first training.
He strides in his university gown with his head held high, his figure casting no shadow even under the full moon. The spectral ducats he scatters around fall silently and vanish in the morning.
The prophecy says that whoever meets an alchemist will be lucky, especially in acquiring knowledge.
