Language has replaced nature
Our culture has separated man from animal, condemning most higher life forms to extermination or suffering. It has separated sexuality from spirituality, and the sacred from the secular, which has profaned sexuality and created a spiritual void—form without content.
Instead of sacredness, we have a cult of the picturesque. Landscape has little meaning for us—it has become a political symbol. We use it instead of experiencing it. Few people truly experience landscape—whether in Portugal, Herefordshire, Albania, or France. We see it, but we don't allow it to penetrate us. We have become ghosts, trapped in our own minds—televisions.
