Julka's Blunders Part 1

It was Friday, May 10th. In Junior High School No. 3, the first-grade class was experiencing their last lesson, which was history. There were only 15 minutes left before the bell. Despite this, the stern Mrs. Rawiecka continued her monologue about the nomadic lifestyle of humans thousands of years ago. Julia Milkowska, completely oblivious to the teacher, stared at the school playground. Someone had just scored a goal, and the wild sounds of delighted soccer players reached the classroom.
"Maybe now I'll check if you were paying attention," the teacher said as
calmly as possible, vaporizing her victim. Julia hadn't heard this. She sat lost in thought, watching the third-grade girls playing a game of "Schmooz" (Schmooz).
"So, Milkowska.
" The girl snapped out of her reverie and looked questioningly at the teacher. The teacher smiled maliciously and asked,
"Why did people lead a nomadic lifestyle?"
"Uh... Because they... didn't want to stay in one place forever, because... they were bored.
" "What did I talk about all lesson? What? Why weren't you paying attention again?" Unfortunately, I have to give you an F."
Only one thought flashed through Julka's mind: no pocket money. She wouldn't be able to go to the cinema with Marta or get ice cream with Maciek.
"No! Don't do that," she screamed. "Maybe I'll make up for it somehow or something.
" "Okay, but it'll be difficult. Make a poster about Mesopotamian art by Monday. It'll be useful for the next lessons.
" "Agreed," Julia replied
. At that moment, the bell rang. The thought of days off gave Julia so much energy that she ran out of the classroom, jumping for joy.
"Will you come to my place now?" Marta suggested
. "I can't. I have to look up this Mesopotamia thing.
" "You were lucky anyway. You wouldn't have gotten away with Dawidzka. Maybe we can look it up together, eh? I got internet yesterday.
" "That's great!
" "But Julka, remember not to tell Aśka! Soon the tourists will be coming to my place. Remember when they set up internet for Monika?"
"I remember! Poor Monia." She was banned from letting her friends in for a month.
The girls were walking down Wyszyńskiego Street. Suddenly, Marta's eyes landed on the window of the Troll store. A dream sweater (at least for Marta) was on display. Bored, Julka watched the passersby. Her neighbor was walking with her shopping, dressed in a very elegant red coat. A girl (she looked like she was in her first year of high school) was decked out in a purple blouse with bright orange sleeves and the words "Wow!" Just then, Julka's ideal was crossing the street: a tall, brunette with romantic, black eyes. Julia thought he was exactly her age. She stared at him until he disappeared around the corner. Suddenly, Julia was woken by Marta:
"Why are you standing there, eyes rolling? How do you like this sweater?
" "Not my style ." "
I was thinking about myself. How would I look in it?
" "Maybe you should try it on." "Okay
." A deep breath, and we went in.
"What's with all this breathing? It's just a store, just a brand -name store
." "But my ex is in there
." Indeed! Julka had just peeked inside and spotted Marcin, a friend from elementary school. The girls went inside and immediately hid behind their sweatshirts. Marcin was examining the pants.
"Look at that skirt!" Marta pulled out something disgustingly yellow with brown trim that looked like a torn kitchen towel turned into a skirt. They both started laughing. Finally, Marta found her dream sweater. Julia started looking around for Marcin, but she couldn't see him anywhere.
"He left. Can you show yourself?
" "Are all the changing rooms occupied?" Marta made a strange face, expressing impatience
. "No! Look! This one seems to be free," Julka shouted and pulled the curtain
. The girls saw a boy in his underwear. Marcin! Julka thought she was going to fall apart and turned red in the face, while Marta was speechless.
"Hey girls!" Marcin shouted, amused. "Do you have to use such tactics to talk to me? Marta, don't scare the frog! I'm not angry anymore.
" "Sorry. I thought this place was free because you didn't turn on the light. Sorry!" Julia uttered, turning even redder.
"Okay! I forgive you. But could you close that curtain already? People are staring!
" "Right," Julka said,
flustered. Marta still didn't say anything. She looked as if she were boiling inside, and suddenly she burst out laughing. The laughter was so loud that everyone, absolutely everyone, who was in the store looked at her. The changing room next door had just become vacant, and Marta walked in with her sweater, still laughing. A moment later, Marcin came out and stood next to Julka.
"What's up?
" "Oh, nothing. I'm just going to Marta's."
"Would you go to the cinema with me tomorrow? I have two tickets. My brother got them for me.
" "For what?
" "Shrek 2
- Extra! I was just about to see that! But I thought they'd be playing during the summer.
" "Tomorrow is the preview. Not many people know about it because the cinema doesn't advertise well. They've recently invested a lot of money in the facilities. Do you know what amazing seats they have there?"
At that moment, Marta emerged from the dressing room. She seemed delighted with her appearance, even though she looked awful. The sweater was hanging on her, and the colors clashed with her complexion.
"How do I look?" she asked.
"Er... you know... not so good," Julka muttered
. "Well, not so great. The colors don't suit you, and it's probably too big.
" "Really? Well, if that's the case," Martunia replied disappointedly, handing the sweater back.
"Then maybe we should go to your place, huh?" I don't have much time." Julka was getting a little impatient.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow at 4:30. Remember!" Marcin called and left.
"Julka, are you going out with him?"
"He asked me to the cinema..."
"...like a boy. He's got a crush on you, honey. There's no way around it.
" "Like a friend! That's all!
" "Exactly!
" "So, shall we go?
" "Okay, okay. "
The girls walked in silence for a while. Finally, they reached Marta's house. When Marta went to the bathroom, Julka sent Maciek from their class a letter on her behalf. It read:
"My darling!
I miss you like a frog misses a stork!
I think about you at night and in the morning.
I think you're pretty and all that.
But you're not my ideal :P
Your Martunia."
The girls were constantly online, and Julia didn't even think to look for anything about Mesopotamia. She returned home that evening. Her parents weren't surprised. Their daughter came home late every Friday. But this day was special for Julka. Not only had she made such a blunder, but she was also invited to the cinema by her best friend's ex. She didn't know what to think about it and, remembering that handsome brunette she had seen on the street, she fell asleep.
