This farmstead was once located in the village of Wierchomla Wielka near Piwniczna and had a sinister reputation as a haunted place. Apparently, many years ago, perhaps as recently as the last century, one of the owners died tragically or committed suicide. Since then, strange knocks and bangs have been heard in the cottage, windows have occasionally rattled, and furniture has moved from wall to wall on its own.
When an ethnographic park was established on the outskirts of Nowy Sącz twenty years ago, the oldest and most characteristic buildings of the region's folk architecture were relocated from four regions of the Sądecki region. Among them was a haunted cottage from Wierchomla, purchased from the previous owners along with all its furnishings. Once everything in the rooms was in its proper place, the cottage was locked. When, a few days later, museum staff entered the meticulously decorated interior, they were surprised to find most of the furniture moved away from the walls, and some small items scattered in disarray on the floor. A few days later, the museum's night watchman, walking around the historic village, saw a dark shape crouched on the stone steps in front of this very cottage, resembling a hunched man, sitting with his face buried in his hands. As he approached, he heard what sounded like a muffled cry, and when he spoke, "The apparition has vanished..."
