# **CHAPTER 14 — "CONFLICT WITH THE LIGHT DRAINER"**

*(full, long, novel version)*

The heart of the underworld beat with its own rhythm—deep, irregular, captivating. The lights hovering around the well pulsed faster and faster, as if reacting to the presence of the Drainer. Commissioner Jakub stood still, holding Argo tightly by the scruff of the neck. The dog growled low, but his gaze never left the enormous creature, which approached slowly, yet each step seemed to fill the entire tunnel.

"Stay close, Argo," Jacob whispered. "It's now or never."

The Light Draughter rose fully. Its shape rippled, pulsated, lengthened, and narrowed like the shadow of a plant in motion, and its red eyes bored into Jacob's so deeply that he felt a chill run through his entire body.

Argo lunged forward, barking and growling, its fur glowing in the darkness like tiny flames. The dog struck the Absorber, who reflexively moved a section of its body away, creating a wave of darkness that nearly engulfed Jacob's flashlight.

"Now!" Jacob shouted, drawing his pistol. Not to kill.

He simply needed to **disperse the entity**, give Argo time, and find a way to release the souls that pulsed in the air.

The Absorber attacked. Its movements were quick, fluid, unpredictable. Each attack was like a blade slicing through the air—the sound echoing through the tunnel like the echo of a cataclysm. Argo dodged the blows, barking and launching short, sharp attacks.

At the same time, Jacob noticed the lights around the well beginning to take shape. Suddenly, as if obediently, they formed a spiral leading to the center of the tunnel. At its center pulsed a vast ball of bright light—a **heart of souls** that needed to be freed.

"We must get there, Argo!" Jacob said, moving between the darkness and the shadows of the Absorber.

The dog ran beside him, quivering with tension and readiness.

Every step was a risk.

Every glance at the Absorber threatened to block out all light.

Jakub finally reached the spiral and took a deep breath. The Absorber was approaching, its body pulsing red and black, threatening to consume everything.

"Argo, now!" he shouted.

In an instant, the dog leaped, striking the monster in its most vulnerable spot—the pulsating, translucent part that Jakub interpreted as the creature's heart.

A ball of light erupted with brightness.
It didn't hurt, but the entire underground shuddered.
The Absorber groaned inhumanly, and its body rippled, spreading waves of darkness that, however, were no longer able to destroy the light.

In that moment, Jakub understood: there was no need to fight, only to **guide the light where it belonged**.

He grabbed the flashlight and guided it toward the heart of souls.
The lights around the spiral began to react, spinning faster, creating a spiral vortex that pulled the Absorber into its center.

Its scream was the last to echo through the tunnel.

The bodies of the shadow-like creature began to disintegrate into tiny, black particles that never returned to the world.

Finally, the heart of souls glowed with full light.
Small dots in the air began to rise and return to human form. The town's lost inhabitants floated slowly, dazed but **safe**.

Jakub looked at Argo. The dog wagged its tail, looking at him as if he were a hero.

"Good, boy... good," Jakub said, hugging the dog.

The underground began to pulse and tremble quietly, as if accepting peace. The tunnel became more stable, and the shadows vanished into the darkness, leaving only the Light.

Jakub knew one thing: they had survived, but the **world beneath their feet would never be the same**.

And Argo? He was ready.

Ready for another night. Another adventure.

Because wherever darkness appears, Commissioner Jakub and his dog Argo will always find a path to the light.
