# **New Dark Series – Chapter 5: “The Night That Remembers Names”**
*(very long, elaborate, dark, and tense—as you wish)*
Only a few hours had passed since the events on Vanishing Street. Yet Jacob, Argo, and the ally felt as if entire days had passed. The darkness they saw there left a mark on them—obsessive, heavy, sticky.
The book lay on the steel table. Closed.
But still… it quivered. Gently, like a beating heart.
Jacob was awake.
The ally was awake.
Argo paced, growling softly at the book.
“It **calls**,” Jacob said, standing in the shadows of the room, watching the cover move as if something alive were beneath it. "She's not just calling," the ally corrected. "She's… sending something."
Jakub frowned at him.
"She's sending?"
"Yes. Like signals. Vibrations. Impulses. Not towards us. Towards… something out there."
Argo suddenly lifted his head. He froze.
The fur on the back of his neck stood on end.
And then…
**Knock.**
On the door.
One.
Two.
Three.
Regular.
Cold.
As if someone was tapping with bony fingers.
The ally grabbed his weapon. Jakub raised a hand, telling him to wait.
"This isn't a visit."
The knock repeated—louder.
Three times.
Too rhythmic.
Too precise.
Argo blocked the entrance with his body and growled menacingly.
Jakub walked up to the door.
The door… didn't have a peephole.
But he felt, literally felt, that something knew his name was standing on the other side.
The knocking changed tone.
Now it was the knocking of long, soft fingers.
As if someone were brushing the surface of the door.
Jakub raised his left hand.
"Who are you?" he asked calmly.
For a second, there was silence.
And then…
something on the other side *repeated his voice.*
Perfect.
Same tone.
But without emotion.
"*Who are you?*"
Jakub stiffened.
The ally snorted:
"It's a copycat."
"No." Jakub shook his head. "It's something that… wants to *remember* me."
Argo suddenly threw himself against the door.
He slammed his paws together, roaring so loudly that the walls shook.
And then…
The knocking stopped.
Completely.
The door was now dead, cold.
Jakub slowly pushed Argo aside.
"Something… recognizes us. It's not attacking. Not yet. It's gathering information."
The ally looked at the book.
"And the book gathers information for it."
Jakub nodded, dejected.
"It remembers names. Faces. Voices."

## **When the book begins to speak**
At five in the morning, the book opened of its own accord.
Not in one movement.
Not naturally.
First, the cover lifted.
Then, slowly, as if stretching lazily, the pages unfolded.
The pages turned by themselves, one after another, faster and faster, until they stopped on a black, completely blank page.
Argo growled.
And on that black page, letters began to appear.
So slowly, as if someone were burning them with embers.
**“I know your name, Jacob.”**
Jacob felt the blood drain from his face.
The ally sighed heavily.
“This isn’t over yet…”
The book trembled again, and more words appeared:
**“I know your name, Argo.”**
The lion retreated as if struck.
The bristles on his back rose like thorns.
And then:
**“I know your name, the Other One.”**
The ally swallowed.
“Why doesn’t he call me by my name?”
Jacob replied quietly, whispering:
“Because… he doesn’t know yours.”
“Is that… good or bad?”
“Bad. It means the book wants to know it.” And that he would try.
Suddenly, all the lamps in the room went out.
A whisper rang out from the darkness.
Not from his mouth.
Not from anywhere.
From… *everything.*
**“Tell me your name…”**
Argo jumped at the book, but it was as if he had hit something hard. He howled in pain and jumped back.
The whisper repeated:
**“Tell me your name…”**
The ally gritted his teeth.
“Never.”
Silence.
And then a thin stream of black smoke rose from the book.
And the smoke began to form a face.
Jacob’s face.
But without eyes.
**“Tell me your name…”**
Jacob shouted:
“WE ARE LEAVING NOW!”
They ran out of the room. Argo in front. The ally closed the door behind him.
But behind the door, the book opened again.
And the last thing they heard before they left was:
**“I know you three.
I know your ways.
And the night… remembers every name.”**

If you wish, we will now move on to **Chapter 6: “The Cave of Whispers”**—the place where the answer to the true nature of Shadowsight lies hidden, and where Jacob and Argo will first encounter a being that should not exist.
