Slavs

In the beginning, as far as the eye could see, there was only sky and sea. A small boat floated on the waters, in which sat Perun, the lord of thunder. The second god, Veles, dwelt in the sea abyss. This continued for centuries. Finally, one day, Veles swam up to the boat, sat down next to the lord of thunder, and said:

"Brother, you've been swimming in this shell for so many years. You wander aimlessly through the vastness, and I don't want to be in the underwater depths anymore..." It was then that the deities decided to create a solid land. Veles jumped into the water and dived to the very bottom. He scooped up a handful of mud and rose to the surface. Perun took the earth in his hand and with a sweeping gesture threw it into the sea, thus creating an island—the beginning of the mainland. However, it was so small that the gods could barely fit on it. Veles immediately began to think of a way to get rid of his brother. He decided to drown him. So he waited until Perun went to sleep. When he fell asleep, he tried to roll him into the water, but no matter how he pushed him, the earth grew. From this rolling, Perun finally awoke. At that moment, thunderbolts fell upon Veles, causing him to sink into the depths of the earth, into the deepest abyss. In revenge, Perun chained his brother to a rock. Perun, however, left to live in the heavens.
