Chapter 13 – Trapped in the Dark

 # ****

The next day, Lena and Adam decided to return home.

They couldn't escape—their lives were tied to this place.

The house, though deserted, **still lived**; its walls pulsated with their own rhythm, as if the house breathed.

The doors creaked with every movement, and the light streaming through the windows seemed to fade as they entered.

"We have to go through everything," Adam said, leading Lena through the hallways.

"Check every room, every board."

When they entered the attic, they saw new markings on the walls.

They weren't carved—they seemed to have formed out of thin air.

The symbols flickered ominously, creating patterns that were dizzying.

"What is this?" Lena whispered, touching one of the lines.

"I don't know," Adam replied. “But I feel like the house lives on our memories.”

“Our memories?”

“Yes. Everything we fear… and all our desires.”

At that moment, the hallway before them collapsed.

Not physically—the walls suddenly closed in on themselves, creating a dark labyrinth.

“Adam!” Lena shouted, but the echo ate away at her words.

“We have to keep going!” he replied, squeezing her hand.

Every step plunged them deeper into the house’s labyrinth.

Every now and then, figures appeared—the outlines of people that blurred upon closer inspection.

They weren’t ghosts—they were **manifestations of their fear**, which the house used against them.

Finally, they reached a vast room they’d never seen before.

In the center stood a mirror.

The mirror didn’t reflect their reality—they saw themselves in alternate versions, twisted by fear, loneliness, and despair.

“We have to get out of here,” Lena whispered, staring at her own reflection.

“But how?” Adam realized the key lay in **overcoming your own fear**.

They held hands and began to voice their fears aloud.

They acknowledged each other’s fears.

With each word, the mirror began to lose its power, and the maze around them slowly disappeared.

The house shook, as if protesting their determination.

Old beams fell from the ceiling, and the floor began to crack.

“Run!” Adam shouted, grabbing Lena’s hand.

They ran outside, straight to the cliff.

Waves crashed against the rocks, and the wind howled in a frenzy.

The house creaked behind them, as if **calling them back**, but this time they were ready.

“Let’s never come back here again,” Lena whispered, clinging tightly to Adam.

“We don’t have to. The house can’t control us anymore.”

But just before they were about to leave the property, they noticed a figure in the window.

Thin, tall, still, staring straight at them.

“Is that… Anna?” Lena whispered.

“I don’t know…” Adam replied. “But I think she’s gone.”

The house slowly faded from their sight, as if it had never existed.

And they were left alone, tired but alive, with hearts full of fear… and a love for each other that had survived their worst nightmares.

# **Epilogue – The Calm After the Storm**

A month later, Lena and Adam settled in their new place.

The city was bustling, and the streets were full of people.

Each day brought the usual sounds—conversations, cars, children’s laughter.

The silence of Cliff House was far behind.

But at night, when they were alone, they sometimes heard rustling in their dreams.

Sometimes they saw a shadow in the mirror… that wasn't their reflection.

But they knew one thing: **they survived together**.

And even if the darkness ever returned, they would no longer be alone.

The End.
