I'm a self-proclaimed feminist psychic (i.e., a psychically gifted person) living in British Columbia, Canada. I've given readings in tearooms, on women's radio shows, and privately and online. As with any other venue where readers are present, the majority of tarot readers are women.
This well-known but little-understood fact has been the focal point of my research for over 30 years. I've observed it firsthand and as online readers have emerged, the evidence remains.
Few people are embarrassed by this fact. For me, this fact alone is interesting. Isn't there anyone else who's curious why this happens? When I ask people for their assumptions about this strange phenomenon, they respond with statements like "women are more intuitive than men" (by the way, there's no research confirming this), or "women accept alternative ways of knowing more easily than men." And what does this say about our educational, institutional, and indeed global infrastructure? I believe the answer to the question "what women really want" (one of Freud's famous puzzles) lies precisely here, in the study of divination. In her excellent book "Tarot Celebrations," Geraldine Amaral quoted Freud, who stated that if he were to live his life, he would study divination—he undoubtedly realized too late that the answer to the question he had been asking himself his entire life lay right there! But that's a digression...
