love has more than one name, part 3
"Uncle, uncle!" she shouted.
"Amelia? Where are you going?
" "To Filip, uncle, to Łódź!! I have two pieces of good news for him, and what are you doing? "
"I'm taking my son, he's going to Łódź too.
" "Oh wow, what's his seat number?" the girl asked curiously
. "Probably 96," the uncle shouted after the departing train. Amelia waved at him and carefully turned to the boy who, instead of arranging his luggage, stood there as if he'd swallowed a stick and looked at her questioningly.
"Who are you?" he asked, frowning and nervously rubbing his chin. "I don't know you!
" "Well, you see, I guess we both don't know each other." She laughed nervously and with a particularly artificial tone. "Are you his son?"
"Hehe, what do you think?" "I think she told you he came to see her son off," he said, frowning as if something had bothered him, and she hadn't meant to offend him. "
I'm Amelia
. Wiktor Adamczyk, nice to meet you. Wait a moment, I'll put my luggage away and we'll talk. "
Amelia sat down and snuggled back into her blue fleece. After a moment, Wiktor sat down too.
"Now tell me, how are you, my distant cousin, hehe, because I don't think you're the child of any of my parents' siblings, since they're both only children." "
I'm very sorry, but if you don't know, then I even more so. My mother introduced me to your father about three years ago, and since we rarely talked, I didn't ask who the family was or how distant it was.
" "Mhm, I'm sorry, " he said.
"You shouldn't be. I had a wonderful father; he was like two parents."
- That's good
- but they're both dead now, my father died a year ago; he had a very weak heart, my mother died of tuberculosis two months ago
- God, I'm so sorry, it wasn't that long ago
- it wasn't necessary, I hate her - she wondered why she reacted so strongly, after all, it wasn't Wiktor's fault - I'm sorry, she constantly humiliated me, my father too. I didn't know why, when she was dying, she told me that her husband wasn't my biological father
- Oh God, did he know?
- Yes, and that's why I respect him even more. She hated him because he loved me even though I wasn't his daughter, and he treated his own children worse, though certainly not badly, because he wouldn't be capable of that
- and who is your father, do you know him?
- Unfortunately, no, I tried to find him, but my efforts were in vain. Well, I guess I can't help it.
-Do you have any leads?
-Mhm, when my mother was dying, she only managed to tell me that his name was Jerzy.
-Hehe, my father has that name too.
"Yeah, but he's an uncle." They laughed together, but Amelia did it very artificially, apologized to Wiktor, and went out into the hallway. "Oh my God, dear, that's impossible," she thought. "Jerzy Ad..." she remembered her mother's words. Jerzy Adamczyk - damn, that fits. I've known him for three years. Why not sooner? Why didn't he become closer to our family sooner? Why did he single her out among his siblings when, until then, only my father did that? Father, is he my... is Wiktor my brother?
So many questions flashed through her mind in an instant. She went to the bathroom and fixed herself up; it was obvious she had cried a little. Not knowing why, she wanted to look nice. She went to Wiktor; he was reading a newspaper, probably a Krakow one. She sat down.
"Do you have any siblings?" she looked at him hungrily, ready to hang on his every word.
"Yes, I have a brother, he's two years older than me, he's 25 now, his name is Daniel
." "Hmm, so we're the same age." She smiled and relaxed a bit as she watched him smile back. "Do
you? Do you have any siblings?
" "Yes, I do, but since we stopped living together, I haven't kept in touch with them. I have two sisters and two brothers. The oldest is Kamila, 25, and she's the closest to me. Then Damian was born, he's 24, then I was born, and a year later, twins Natalia and Karol. They're now 22.
"Hmm, so you're not the eldest
—no
—then your mother cheated on her husband during their marriage
—well, that's how it goes
—and he forgave her, poor thing
—yes, he forgave her since she got pregnant again, there must have been something between them
—he must have been a wonderful man. It's a shame I didn't meet him, since we're family."
Amelia paled. God, if he's her brother, he shouldn't know about this. Her mother was right, not only her life would have been ruined, but much more, she thought sadly.
She slept the rest of the journey, dreaming of her father, the real one, not the biological one. At the end of the journey, she said goodbye to Wiktor and ran towards the taxi stand. She didn't see him watching her as she walked away.
