New life

"I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're gray and old
'cos I've been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel that love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead
When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't "Forsake me
, I'm loving angels instead"

Robbie Williams - "Angels"

"New Life"

I've always believed in angels. It was obvious to me that they existed, and above all, that they were happy. I thought they had some kind of control over people. However, I never thought that what happened a few days ago could happen to me.
It all started normally, like every day, I left for school before eight.
On the way, walking with my Walkman headphones in my ears and listening to Robbie Williams quite loudly, I felt someone tugging at my backpack from behind. I turned around and turned down the volume. My classmate was standing behind me.
"Sharon, I've been running behind you for five minutes, calling for you to wait, and you're just walking and not paying attention to anything!
" "Oh, hi Alice. I'm sorry, I was listening to my Walkman and didn't hear anything.
" "I could have guessed. With that music, you could cause an accident." What if, for example, a car suddenly pulled out of nowhere and you didn't hear it? It could have run you over!
"Don't exaggerate, Alice." My friend was often quick to exaggerate, but this time I didn't know that much of what she said might be true...

* * *

I was incredibly lucky at school. I got two A's, and
in the subjects I dislike most—physics and history. I'd never managed to get such good grades in those dreadful classes before.and today it happened,
In one day, too. Besides, I had the best time running in PE, and I wrote my dictation perfectly in Polish. It was a great day.
I was coming home from school, happy with my life, and Alice was walking by.
"You know, Mom almost agreed to a dog," she said.
Alice had been trying to convince her parents to get her a dog for several months, but they always refused, dismissing her with the cliché that a dog was too much work, so now I was surprised to hear her friend's words.
"What do you mean, she almost agreed?
" "She told me to leave her alone and go pester Dad. So I'm on the right track; soon he'll say, 'Do whatever you want!'"
I smiled, imagining the Morrisons' always spotless house, tormented by the huge German Shepherd Alice dreams of.
At home, I told Mom about my successful day at school.
"Wonderful, honey. How about a shopping trip as a reward?
" Mom was a typical woman who loved shopping. She could spend entire days in them, which irritated my dad, who, like most men, didn't see the point. I wasn't particularly keen on shopping either, but I wanted to seize the opportunity to persuade my mom to buy a new CD.
"Sure, Mom. Shopping with you is pure pleasure—it's always worth a little sweet talk, after all, a CD is worth a lot."
We left in Mom's Opel right after lunch, before Dad got home from work.
The hypermarket parking lot was crowded as usual, but we found a parking space.
I hate pushing a shopping cart in these kinds of stores. It's hard to maneuver it through the jostling crowds. Finally, after all the things Mom had looked at, bought or not, we went to browse CDs.
I spotted it immediately. It was among hundreds of others. The new Robbie Williams CD!
I quickly reached the proper CD shelf. Mom followed me, and I, without beating
around the bush, asked,
"Mom, will you buy me a Robbie CD?" Pleaseeeee....
- But I just bought you his CD.
- Yes, but this one is new. Will you buy it? Pleaseeeee....
Mom looked disapprovingly, first at the CD, then at me. She took out her wallet, counted its contents, hesitated a moment longer before answering, and finally, to my delight, said,
- Okay, put it in the basket.
Happy and pleased with myself, I selected the CD and gently placed it on top of the other things cluttering the basket. We reached the checkout and soon left the store, each carrying a few shopping bags, which we placed in the trunk of the Opel.
In the car, I asked my mom if I could put on a new CD in the car stereo. After receiving permission, I was soon listening to the song "Angels." Robbie drowned out the engine noise and the sounds outside the car. I closed my eyes, completely immersed in the listening. When I opened them, all I saw was a man we'd just driven past, staring at us in horror, our eyes filled with fear,
and a truck barreling straight toward us at incredible speed. I felt a powerful impact
and lost consciousness. I opened my eyes. At first, I was blinded by the brightness from all directions, but a moment later, I could see the beauty surrounding me. I was lying in a green meadow, surrounded by wildflowers.

Suddenly , a noise, like a hoofbeat, broke through the previously unbroken silence. Still lying there, I turned my head to the right and noticed a herd of dazzling white horses galloping nearby. I quickly jumped to my feet. The horses, ignoring me, ran right past. After a moment, silence fell again, only the occasional sound of birdsong. I looked around. There wasn't a soul in sight. "Where am I? How did I get here?" I whispered. "This is where your path ends, Sharon," I heard a voice behind me. I turned around. Before me stood a boy, maybe a few years older than me. He had blond hair and big, blue eyes, and a cheerful, kind expression. If he only had wings, he'd look just like a sweet little angel. "Who are you? How do you know my name?" I asked. "I've never seen you before, I don't think we've met. You look like some kind of cherub." The last sentence slipped out of my mind, but the boy didn't seem to mind at all. "I'm Josh, a guardian angel of a higher order." I glanced at him suspiciously. He didn't look like he was joking at all. On the contrary, he was completely serious. Either he'd run away from the madmen or he was telling the truth. "I'm here," he continued, "to officially welcome you and explain everything. I don't know if you remember, but you had an accident." Your mom's car collided with a truck. Your mom is in the hospital, she survived. Unfortunately, you didn't." He looked deep into my eyes. "What...? You mean I'm dead?! I was terrified. I was breathing, thinking, moving, so how could I not be alive? "That's not true, I'm dreaming! " "No, Sharon. You're not dreaming, this is real. This is where your real life begins. You were born to die, and you died to live. Welcome to heaven! * * * As Josh—who is my guardian angel—told me, I am in heaven. I'm slowly getting used to it. I miss my parents and friends a little, but they will join me sooner or later.

It's nice here too. Every creature is free; there's no evil, racism, or violence. Everyone is happy. I made friends with a horse from the herd that passed me on that fateful day I arrived. I also met a few angels.
Josh is currently on Earth caring for a little newborn boy. I can't be a guardian angel yet. They say there's a time for that, like everything else.

I've always believed in angels. Now I'm one of them.
