summer love Love in Ustronie Morskie

She traveled to Kołobrzeg by train, and from Kołobrzeg to Ustroń by bus. She got off at the stop near the church. She stopped for a moment. She could be here again, even though she didn't want to come. Alone! It was the first time she'd ever gone anywhere alone. She thought about it for a long time. Why couldn't she take a friend with her? Why had her mother suggested it herself? And why couldn't she live at a campsite or even in Łasin, where she'd been many times? She was happy that she might live in a cottage, but no!

She glanced at the small white card that had been hidden in her navy blue backpack. "Oh well..." she thought, looking at the written address: Pensjonat Wiktoria. Report to the receptionist.

Magda picked up her bag, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and walked slowly, lazily, towards the designated spot. It wasn't far; the guesthouse where she was supposed to stay was on the same street. Besides, she remembered this place from last year. Nearby stood the Cooler pub, where she often hung out with Żurek, Wojtek, and Sylwia... It had been so nice back then...

But now she was walking alone along this street, and somehow she was glad of it. She felt she might be able to think things over, perhaps find some peace of mind... She wasn't counting on any particular acquaintance, but subconsciously hoped she might meet someone who would keep her company, even if only for a moment.

And now she found herself in front of her new home. The building was white, with a ground floor and three stories. Each room had a balcony and a window. In front of the entrance was a beautiful lawn and a few benches. The entire area was surrounded by a hedge and a wire fence.

"Good morning!" Magda said, entering the building. The inside was even nicer than the outside. Directly across from the entrance was the reception desk, with sofas and a coffee table next to it. Newspapers were lying on the table, but Magda ignored them. However, she did notice the door to the dining hall. She hadn't purchased any meals because she decided that since she hadn't done anything all year, she'd now get busy and lose weight. At least a little...

"Name, please," the receptionist said to her as soon as Magda reached the front desk. Magda handed her a reservation card and her ID, then filled out two forms and paid in advance for two weeks, as she had previously agreed with her mother. It turned out her room was number thirty-two and located on the third floor.

In the room, by the window stood a large bed, next to it a nightstand and a lamp. A wardrobe stood against the wall, and roughly in the middle stood a medium-sized table and two chairs. The bathroom was by the front door.

She quickly changed into her swimsuit. She didn't even unpack. She wanted to get to the beach as quickly as possible. She unpacked everything she didn't need from her backpack and stuffed it with a large towel with dolphins, a Walkman, a newspaper, and something she shouldn't brag about—cigarettes...

She closed the room and quickly climbed the stairs. A moment later, she was standing on Chrobrego Street. She planned to buy something to drink at a nearby shop and was ready to go. She passed the Cooler pub again and bumped into the bartender. She recognized him perfectly. She still remembered those contests when she'd tossed raisins into her cousin Żurek's mouth and missed a single one, and the bartender, laughing, begged her to get at least one for him... Magda smiled at the sight of him and at the thought. No, she didn't like the bartender, but she seemed to like him.

After a few minutes, her feet felt the sand and she heard the sound of waves. It was hot outside, but a light breeze was blowing, which made the waves. She smiled to herself... She spread out her towel, sat down, looked at the sea, and smiled again...

Tomek wasn't at all thrilled by the idea of going on vacation with his older sister and her boyfriend. He was most disconsolate by the fact that he couldn't even take a friend with him. He could, or rather should, have considered it a punishment, but one thing prevailed over his decision to go. He loved the water. Only the company. His sister and her boyfriend, Kuba, had each other. And he, Tomek? He was alone!

"As usual, you're lost..." Tomek said irritably, watching with pity as Marysia, his sister, stared at the map and searched for the main street. He knew perfectly well that they were standing there, but he didn't want to spoil his sister's fun, so he sat in the backseat of the car and smiled to himself. Finally, Kuba realized they had arrived and started looking for the Wiktoria guesthouse...

"Here we are!" Marysia shouted, getting out of the car. The three of them went inside. Tomek heard that his room was number twenty-three, so he grabbed his key, bag, and backpack and ran upstairs. He had already decided not to hang out with his sister, which pleased everyone.

Once in his room, he unpacked incredibly quickly, searched for his swimming trunks, grabbed a towel, and left the room. He decided not to take his backpack, as he probably planned to stay in the water the entire time. On his way out, he must have slammed the door too hard, causing some lady to give him a dirty look, but Tomek didn't seem to mind.

Magda was still lying on the beach. Not far from her, a family had a radio, and the song "Daddy, You Can't Catch Up" was playing.

At that moment, the girl remembered her entire previous vacation in Ustroń. That song had been a hit, after all.

Now Magda was lying on her stomach and reading the newspaper—or rather, she only seemed to because it was what she was actually thinking. She couldn't quite put her thoughts into words. Suddenly, a voice interrupted her thoughts:

"Magda! What are you doing here!?"

"Uh, Tomek?" Magda raised her eyes and looked at him warmly. She didn't really want her gaze to be like that, but she couldn't help it. "What are you doing here?"

"How can I put it... I'm on vacation," Tomek said, then smiled at her. They knew each other from school, especially at the end of the year, and they'd talked a bit, but I don't think either of them expected to meet up during the summer.

"With who?" Magda asked, still looking at him. Honestly, she felt really good when he was around. He just sat down on his towel, stretched his legs, and said,

"With my sister and her boyfriend. And you?

" "Alone

." "Completely alone?" Tomek asked. He was sure Magda was here with her family or friends... Well, possibly with her boyfriend. But alone?

" "Yes. It was my mom's idea. At first I had my doubts, but in the end I decided that such a trip had its advantages...

" "...But of course," Tomek interrupted her, and before laughing, he said, "thanks to this, I won't be bored for two weeks and I'll have company!"

"No problem," said Magda. It had to be admitted that she was very pleased with it. She really liked Tomek and had no objection to spending her vacation with him. After a moment, she asked, "Have you been here before?"

"No, and you?"

"Yes. Twice. So I see I'll be the guide?"

"Absolutely," the boy confirmed, then looked out at the sea. He noticed that many people were in the water. This motivated him to take a dip too. So he suggested, "How about a swim?"

"Okay," the girl said, and they both stood up. The beach in Ustronie Morskie wasn't very large and actually only began at the section where they were staying.

The waves were foaming, but they weren't exactly large. Tomek dipped his feet and decided the water was warm. Magda, unfortunately, ended up on one foot and declared she absolutely wouldn't go in, but Tomek disagreed. He picked her up and walked a few meters, and when the water was deep enough, he threw her into the water, despite her screams and pleas for him to absolutely not do it.

"Come on!" Magda said as she emerged. Since the boy was still half dry, she quickly splashed him. He then decided to give it back to her, and quite a fight ensued. Following the movement of the waves, they moved closer and closer to the shore, and it looked so comical that even the other people in the water laughed at them.

"Are you giving up?" Tomek asked with a laugh

. "Oh, you definitely won't! But you can, if you've had enough

." "I haven't had enough!" And I won't give up.

"But I'll win anyway!" "

That's a tough one," Tomek said, seeing the girl eagerly trying to splash him. "Yes, she did." Since she was lying in the water and naturally weaker than him, she had no advantage.

"Not only in that respect!

" "We'll have to check it out..."

After getting out of the water, they headed for the towels. They sat down, looked at each other, and laughed. Neither of them knew why they were laughing, but it didn't matter. Tomek was glad he had company. Moreover, he was glad it was her. He had wanted to talk to her at school, but something always got in the way. He didn't know how to approach her, then his relationship with Agnieszka... And the end of the school year... Everything was wrong. And now these holidays. He felt that these would be his best holidays, even without his bike, without his beloved friends...

And Magda? Well, at that moment she didn't regret coming at all. She was sitting next to Tomek now, next to THAT Tomek, and somewhere deep inside she felt that it had been worth it, a hundred times worth it, to come here. She remembered perfectly well that biology test, when they were the loudest of all, and she didn't even bother them when they cheated. The presence of the teacher, who was standing right next to them. And that bike ride... She hadn't gone there because she loved cycling. But she enjoyed it and was proud of herself for managing to ride despite that damn knee. And Tomek's presence. He rode with her the whole time, at her snail's pace, and he was so lovely. It might not have meant anything, but it meant so much to her.

"You're lost in thought..." Tomek laughed, waving in front of Magda's eyes.

"Me...? Er..." Magda stammered, but quickly added, "You know, I was thinking about the bike ride

." "The school one?"

"Have I taken part in any other? At least this year.

" "Well, you didn't brag to everyone that you rode in the Dolomites and the Tatras... And you didn't brag about those medals at all..." Tomek joked, earning a nudge from Magda. She looked at him wildly and added:

"I'll show you what I can do... You just have to wait a moment for those knees to give up on me...

" "I know you can..."

They arranged to meet at 5 p.m. in front of the guesthouse. When they found out they lived in the same place, they were even more surprised. Tomek arrived first. He lit a cigarette and sat down on a bench. He didn't wait too long, however, because Magda quickly appeared. She also lit a cigarette and they were ready to go. They decided to go to a bar for a bite to eat. They found a pub located at the intersection of two streets. They got a small table on the The waitress wanted to give them a menu, but Tomek placed his order:

-Two hamburgers with fries

-You must be crazy - said Magda when the waitress left - fries?

-What?

-Diet, Tomuś, diet

-Don't worry, teddy bear, I'll save you - laughed Tomek - I'll eat your fries

"No!" Magda rebelled. She looked at him again. She still couldn't believe she was sitting here with Tomek. She even pinched herself, but it was reality. She wanted to stop herself from looking at him so intently, but when she realized it was impossible, she gave in, and although she didn't pretend to herself that she wasn't looking at him at all.

"Is it just me, or are you still staring at me?" the boy asked.

"I... Uh..., no... I mean... meh..." She began to stammer, and Tomek smiled sincerely and said,

"Yes, yes..."

Around 9 p.m., the sun was setting. The cafes and pubs were slowly filling up, mostly with young people.

Magda and Tomek were walking. They were now walking along Nadbrzezna Street. They had two options. They could either go to the beach right away or walk along the street a bit longer. They chose the latter. They planned to go to see the sunset, but a little later. Of course, the phrase "a little later" meant different things to both Magda and Tomek.

"You know what, I'm happy with how things turned out," Tomek said as they passed the Almira disco. The beach entrance was right next door, so he grabbed her hand and they ran to the beach. They sat on the ground, or rather, on Tomek's sweatshirt, and looked at each other the entire time.

"Me too," Magda said

. "Forgive me for asking this terrible question, but I'd like you to answer it... Do you have a boyfriend?

" "That's a terrible question for me too... I don't. And you? " "

I don't have a boyfriend ." "And

a girlfriend?

" "Neither."

It was terribly strange. Not a word was spoken after Tomek's reply. They both heard only the sound of the sea and each other's breathing. Magda didn't know what to do, what to feel, or what to do at all. She was sitting opposite Tomek, whom she really liked. She kept looking at him and saw his beautiful smile. She knew it by heart. She just didn't know what to do. The only thing she knew was that she couldn't stand it for much longer. Let him, damn it,

say something, let him at least move... But sitting next to him, when she was so close, when it seemed like he was within her reach... No, that was too much for her. The sun had already set, and it was getting dark and cold. The beach was emptying. A moment later, Tomek moved closer to Magda. In one move, he put his arm around her waist and smiled at her. What a beautiful smile he has... Magda thought, but no more. She could think again, as she felt her lips and Tomek's lips connect. She realized it wasn't just his initiative... She closed her eyes, wrapped her arms around the boy's neck, and let herself be carried away. Feeling his lips on hers sent shivers down her spine, but she was as insanely happy as she'd ever been.

He hugged her tighter, with both hands. When they finished kissing, he blew a kiss on her nose and said,

"That's what I've been wanting to do since the rally

." "You should have," Magda replied, and Tomek kissed her again.

"And I knew I wouldn't get a leaf as a reward?

" "You mean it wasn't obvious?

" "You know, I didn't even think about it. I just took it for granted that you definitely had someone, and if not, then I definitely had no chance." " It's

a mistake

, you can fix it," Tomek said, and as he said this, he kissed her again, and then again, and again... And each kiss lasted longer than the last...
