Philip's Limitations and Strength

It was clear that Philip, created by human imagination, had limitations. Although he could accurately answer questions about the events and people of his time, it seems that this information could not have been unknown to the group. In other words, Philip's answers came from the human subconscious—from the minds of the members. Some of them claimed to hear whispers in response to questions, but no voices were ever captured on tape.

However, Philip's psychokinetic abilities were extraordinary and completely unexplained. If the group asked for the lights to be dimmed, he would immediately turn them off. If asked to turn the lights back on, he would. The table at which the group was sitting was almost always the focal point of the strange phenomena. When members felt a cool breeze flowing across the table, they asked Philip if he could start and stop it calmly. He could, and did. The group noticed that touching the table always felt different in Philip's presence, having an electric or "alive" quality. On several occasions, a fog was observed forming in the center of the table. Most astonishing was that the table was at times so animated that it could quickly herd all latecomers into the session or even trap all the participants in a corner.

The highlight was a live recording of the session with an audience of fifty people. This was also filmed as part of a television documentary. Fortunately, Philip wasn't shy and showed more than expected. Besides knocking on the table, other noises throughout the room, and flashing lights, the group achieved virtually complete levitation of the table. It rose only a centimetre above the floor, but this feat was confirmed by the group and the film crew. Unfortunately, poor lighting prevented the levitation from being captured on film.

Although the Philip experiment gave Oewna's group more than they imagined, they never achieved one of their original goals - the materialization of Philip's spirit.
