Korean mythology

Korean mythology is rich with fascinating deities and mythical figures that reflect the rich culture and beliefs of the region. Among them are Amenohiboko and Arashito, daughters of the sun, and Chōjong, son of the dragon and ruler of the East Sea. Of particular note is Chilsong, the deity of the seven stars, to whom women pray when seeking motherhood. Figures such as Hwanin, the supreme Korean deity, and Dangun, Korea's first mythical ruler, demonstrate the deep connections between beliefs and national identity.

Amenohiboko - daughter of the sun.

Arashito - daughter of the sun.

Chhojong - son of the dragon, ruler of the East Sea.

Chilsong - deity of the seven stars in the constellation Ursa Major. Women pray to him for the grace of motherhood.

Dzisin - spirits of the earth.

Dzudzak - a red phoenix guarding the south.

Habek - ruler of inland waters.

Halmang - the giantess who formed the island of Dzedzū.

Hananim, Hanynim – was the supreme Korean deity, ruler of the sky. Known as an invisible and unknowable deity, manifesting his presence, for example, through the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder. In most homes and temples, he was worshiped by praying with folded hands before a vessel of spring water. Hanynim was tasked with supervising all human deeds, rewarding good and punishing evil, that is, those that violated the accepted norms of social coexistence in a given society.

Hemosu - the first ruler of northern Pujo, son of the heavenly emperor, came from the union of Hemosu and Habeka.

Horangi - a bloodthirsty tiger, ruler of the mountains.

Hwanin - Heavenly Emperor.

Hwanung - son of Hwanin exiled to Korean soil, father of Tangun.

Insam - the root of life (ginseng), a panacea for all diseases.

Jong - dragon, ruler of the seas and oceans.

Kirin - unicorn, mythical animal, symbol of perfection and happiness.
Kwanum - a mythological man who came from the stars in 2300 BC

Kwisin - the name of wandering spirits and demons.

Mom - the demon of smallpox.

Sansin - a mountain deity in the form of an old man with a tiger. Women pray to him when they wish to have a son.

Sonangsin - the tutelary deity of the village.

Songdzusin - the protective deity of the home.

Susin - water spirits.

Dangun - the first mythical ruler of Korea, the son of a celestial and a bear transformed into a woman - the forefather of the Korean people.

Thosin - spirits of the earth.

Torkebi - annoying devils, they did not harm people, but only made life difficult.

Toksong - a lonely saint, is to remind us that the truth of existence should be sought within ourselves, not in the external world
