Chupacabra

The chúpacabra is a mysterious creature first sighted in Puerto Rico in 1995. Witnesses describe it as an unusually tall, bipedal animal with dark skin, large red eyes, and a distinctive crest on its back. Its appearances are associated with a series of brutal attacks on domestic animals, including goats and sheep, which were found drained of blood. Despite numerous reports of chúpacabra sightings, authorities have not undertaken a wide-scale investigation, raising controversy and questions about the true nature of this enigmatic creature.

The first reports of the Chúpacabra date back to before 1973, but reports of encounters with the creature have intensified in recent years.
On the night of September 7, 1995, witness Misael Negron observed the creature while standing on the balcony of his home in the Canovanas district of northeastern Puerto Rico. Negron saw the creature for about 10 minutes. He later estimated its size (height) at 1.2-1.3 meters. The chúpacabra had dark skin and no ears. Its round head was equipped with enormous red eyes and a mouth from which long, sharp fangs protruded. Negron compared this "face" to a fish's snout. The chúpacabra also had long, thin paws, ending in three-fingered hands with claws. This contrasted with its hind legs, which were muscular and powerful, allowing the animal to move upright. A striking feature was the strange crest protruding from the creature's back, extending from the head to the end of its body. The strangest thing was that it kept changing colors (green, blue, red, orange, purple) and seemed to emit a faint, phosphorescent light. Negron found the animal on the opposite end of his balcony. It was facing him, about 15 meters away. The terrified witness fled into the house, but the Chúpacabra seemed curious, staring at him with its large eyes. Eventually, the creature moved away, and Negron breathed a sigh of relief. The next day, Negron's brother, Angel David, likely saw the same creature. This time, the animal was caught red-handed, near the carcass of a goat he had just killed. Angel reacted similarly to his brother and took refuge in the house. Later, from the balcony, he saw the Chúpacabra wander off and disappear into the bushes. The goat's body was later examined. Small cavities were found in the body, through which the creature apparently sucked out blood, bodily fluids, and internal organs (heart, liver, but also eyes and ears). Interestingly, both Misael and Angel David remembered the animal's sounds. It resembled a loud buzzing sound (similar to the sound of a turbine). The chúpacabra also appeared near the site of these two sightings on September 11th, and was seen by Miguel Nevado. On another occasion, in August 1995, the creature simply strolled along a road in broad daylight (around 3 p.m.). Several witnesses saw it and even tried to catch it, but they were unsuccessful, as the animal fled at tremendous speed. In early September 1995, a JC police officer from Campo Rico managed to shoot the chúpacabra with his pistol and hit the animal. The animal, thrown by the bullet, hit a wall. However, it rose and showed no signs of injury before fleeing. On September 16th, the animal was spotted in flight, and Daniel Perez fired several shots at it. He later recounted the encounter:It was around 7:30 a.m. during the day. I heard a loud buzzing sound and looked out the window, and that's when I saw this creature. It was just landing, and after a few seconds, it stood on two legs on a large rock in my patio. After a moment, it jumped up, took off, and flew away, weaving between the branches of an avocado tree without touching them. It looked exactly as other people had described it. What struck me most about its appearance were what looked like small wings on its back, which grew larger as it moved down its back. The creature moved them at a great speed, which caused the buzzing sound. So, there are small wings on CHUPA's back, not colorful spikes as previously thought. It's just that when it moves them quickly, we only see their upper edges, which look like curved spikes. I also noticed that while flying, the creature changes direction by tilting these small wings in a certain direction. I think it came from somewhere else in the universe."
On October 4th, the police finally took an interest in the Chúpacabra case, alerted by a resident of the Canovanas district who reported strange, hairy, bipedal, dark-colored creatures prowling near his home. He notified the Civil Protection Office, which led to an investigation. What appeared to be Chúpacabra blood was found among the bushes and on the fence. It is currently being chemically analyzed.

On October 7th, the creature returned, this time appearing in the Cambalache suburb of Los Perez. Mary Anne Q. saw it at 3:30 p.m., again in broad daylight. The creature looked as other witnesses had described it, but Mary Anne added that it had webbing between its fingers and webbing connecting its arms to its body. She also described its hair as not resembling real hair or fur, but rather a kind of fiber protruding from the skin. Later that same day, two other people saw the chúpacabra. Don Tono and Loma del Viento, as well as people in their shop, saw the creature riding on the back of a horse, which it seemed to want to bite. When it noticed the witnesses, it leaped away, leaping a great distance.

Animals were found drained of blood.

It should be noted that the authorities are completely unconcerned about this phenomenon, despite the fact that the Chúpacabra causes significant losses in domestic livestock. Only one report has been published on the matter, specifically the death of a goat in Campo Rico, Canovanas County, at the request of Sergeant José L. Chabert. The letter reads:
