The year was 1992. Maria Cuccia was 31 years old and living on Long Island. Her days were filled with her work as a piano teacher, caring for her home, and caring for her three daughters, ages 9, 7, and 4. There was no indication that something extraordinary would happen one June night.
According to Maria, it all began around 3 a.m. She awoke suddenly to find a bright beam of light shining through her bedroom ceiling, as if aimed directly at her. Before she could react, she felt a strange tremor and an electric tingling sensation throughout her body, after which—she claims—her body was lifted upwards in a powerful beam of light. Disoriented, in a split second she was pulled through the ceiling and lifted skyward at breakneck speeds. A moment later, she realized she was inside an object resembling a spaceship.
In the dim interior, she noticed three humanoid beings in long, white, hooded robes. These figures had an unusual appearance—Maria describes a blinding light emanating from where their faces should have been. These beings spoke not audibly, but Maria sensed their presence and intentions telepathically. One of them gestured for her to look through a large window or screen in the wall. When she did, she was speechless: outside, she saw a group of children who appeared to be human-alien hybrids. These children had characteristics that were partly human, and partly reminiscent of classic descriptions of extraterrestrials (so-called "grays")—for example, they had unnaturally large heads, small, slender bodies, and large, dark eyes.

At one point, one of the beings (appearing to be a female caregiver) brought a boy from the group closer to the window. The boy, about eight years old, with large olive-colored eyes, fixed his gaze on her. Maria suddenly felt a profound emotional impact—as she describes, a wave of unconditional love washed over her at the sight of the child. Tears welled in her eyes. Then the boy slowly raised his small hand and waved hesitantly, as if recognizing her. Cuccia recalls that at that moment, she instinctively, silently, asked, "Is this my son The answer came telepathically from one of the tall, white-robed beings: "Yes. This is your son," she heard in her head. Surprised and stunned, Mary continued to ask herself, "How is this possible? What is his name?" The next reply was: "His name is Elijah. He was taken from you eight years ago, when you were three months pregnant—it was for a good purpose. One day you will understand why. Now you must return. Seek the meaning of his name."
The words, spoken silently, seemed both reassuring and terrifying. Maria felt her mind struggle with the shock—for indeed, eight years earlier, she had been pregnant and unexpectedly lost. In 1984, when she was three months pregnant, she had experienced a miscarriage, or the unexplained disappearance of a fetus. Now she was hearing that this was no accident or mere tragedy—according to the beings, her unborn child had been taken by them and was living somewhere far away as a human-alien hybrid.
Before she could ask any more questions, Maria felt another jolt of consciousness. In an instant, the scene on the ship faded—Mary awoke back in her own bed. She was shaking, drenched in sweat and tears. Her heart was pounding. She looked around desperately, but the bedroom was enveloped in night darkness, as if nothing had happened. A voice, already echoing in her head, repeated: "Look up the meaning of the name Elijah
..."Still feeling the immense emotional shock, Mary jumped out of bed. On the shelf was a book of baby names—she frantically found it and turned the pages to the name Elijah . There, she read that the name was derived from Hebrew and meant "Yahweh is my God " (or, in the Christian interpretation, "The Lord is my God/Savior" ). Seeing these words, Mary burst into tears again. The entire experience—from the appearance of the light to the discovery of the name's meaning—was both overwhelming and sacred. She spent the rest of the night sitting on the floor, hugging the book, sobbing until dawn, unable to recover from what she had endured.
