Iceman

December 1968, a remarkable event occurred in Rollingston, Minnesota, that fascinated cryptozoologists and researchers. Ivan Sanderson and Bernard Heuvelmans had the opportunity to examine the remains of a mysterious ape-man, found in a block of ice owned by Frank Hansen. The specimen, transported in a special van, generated enormous interest, and its anatomical features suggested it belonged to a species unknown to science. Despite extensive research, the fate of the "Iceman" remains a mystery, and the case itself continues to spark controversy and speculation about the existence of undiscovered anthropoid species.

For three days in December 1968, in Rollingston, Minnesota, Ivan Sanderson and Bernard Heuvelmans had the opportunity to examine the corpse of an extraordinary ape-man encased in a rectangular block of ice. The owner of this "exhibit" was a certain Frank Hansen, who supposedly smuggled the creature from Asia on a sealing vessel. It was transported from location to location in a special van so that as many people as possible could view the remains for a small fee.

The ice block was embedded in a metal box of some kind, covered with a layer of thick glass. The entire structure was constantly cooled and illuminated for better visibility. Scientists determined that the monkey had been killed by a shot to the right eye, while the left eye was dislodged by the force of the gunshot. A wound on the left hand was also visible, raised as if the creature had been trying to cover both eye sockets. The ape was approximately 180 cm tall and likely weighed 115 kg. It had a very strong and broad jaw, with a receding chin. Interestingly, the creature's figure differed slightly from that of a human, as the torso tapered at the hips rather than at the waist. This further enhanced the impression of the creature's muscularity. Almost the entire body was covered with sparse but long, dark brown hair, up to 70 cm long. Hair was present everywhere except the face (apart from the cheeks), the soles of the feet, the armpits, the palms of the hands, and the genitals (definitely resembling those of a human, not apes).

The creature's fingernails were strikingly human-like, appearing worn. The skin was dark yellowish in color. Researchers also discovered that the creature walked on the medial aspect of its feet, as two pads on the sole were located behind the big toe, suggesting that its movements were controlled by separate muscles. Traces found in Asia confirm this similar locomotion. A curious feature of the hand, suggesting that the creature also moved on all fours, was the location of the pad not below the thumb, but next to the little finger.

The scientists determined beyond any doubt that the exhibit was not a dummy created to generate sensation and mislead researchers, but the authentic corpse of a humanoid ape, unknown to science. This was confirmed by the stench of decaying flesh where the ice was slightly thinner. Unfortunately, the cryptozoologists were not allowed to thaw the block of ice and perform an autopsy on the creature, nor were they allowed to X-ray it. Immediately afterward, F. Hansen claimed that he was not, in fact, the true owner of the body, but someone else, and the researchers were barred from entering the vehicle carrying the singularity.

The fate of the "Iceman" remains unknown. Hansen vanished without a trace, and the corpse itself supposedly rotted and was replaced with an effigy. Nevertheless, if considered authentic, it constitutes some of the best evidence for the existence of a giant, anthropoid ape inhabiting inaccessible areas of Asia.
