The Creature of Copiapó

July 1868, a remarkable event occurred in the Chilean city of Copiapó, sparking the interest of the local press. A group of miners observed a mysterious hybrid creature, resembling a combination of several animal species, flying overhead. The description of the creature, which had a head resembling a locust and a serpentine body covered in glistening scales, stirred both anxiety and fascination.

In July 1868, a report appeared in the Chilean press about a sighting by miners in the town of Copiapó. They reportedly saw a terrifying hybrid (a cross between several animal species) flying overhead while they were waiting for dinner.

According to a newspaper description, the creature had a large head resembling a locust's. Its eyes were wide and glowed like burning coals. The head seemed to be covered with thick, stiff bristles, like those of a boar, and its elongated, serpentine body was covered with shiny scales that clashed together, making a metallic sound as the creature arced in flight.

The strange creature came from the northeast and headed southwest. It's hard to imagine what could have prompted a group of over a hundred adult men to imagine a bird with the form of a snake, the head of a locust, and a body covered in scales. Of course, this could also be attributed to "overexertion."

Unfortunately, we will probably never know whether it was just a collective hallucination or whether such a being actually existed.
