Feet under the door
This true story happened quite recently to my young friend Irina. She, her husband, and their four-year-old daughter moved into a new apartment. She was happy to finally be able to move out of the dorms, especially since the previous owners had restored the place to a state that required no renovations. Even the furniture looked as if it had just been bought.
Irina decided to share her joy with her friends and take photos of the apartment to post on the social network VKontakte. While she was removing the furniture left by the previous owners, her daughter initially followed her, but quickly lost interest and went to watch TV. Leaving the girl alone with the cartoons, she closed the door and photographed an antique chest of drawers standing to the left of the room's entrance.
Irina posted the photos online, as she intended. Later, while checking her friends' reactions, she saw a friend's comment under one of the photos:
"Whose feet are those under the door?"
Irina wrote her a private message in response:
"That's my daughter in the photo with her feet. She was sitting in the room at the time. I didn't even think she'd be in the frame, but it turned out funny."
The reply came immediately (Irina told me she was just getting the hang of "quick dialogues" at the time). The woman reread the text several times:
"Does your daughter have six toes?"
Looking closely at the photo, Irina saw something that made her break out in a cold sweat: tiny baby feet, with a total of twelve neat little toes, were peeking out from under the door. The frame was very clear; it didn't look like a camera defect or a long exposure: Irina had been taking photographs for a long time and was an expert at it.
At that moment, she felt like the apartment had gotten colder. She stared at the monitor, afraid to even look toward the door. Then she remembered that her daughter was playing in that very room. The feeling of fear still lingered, but her maternal instincts took over, and Irina ran into the room. Her daughter was sitting there, peacefully playing.
A few days later, other strange things about the new apartment became apparent. Loud banging noises came from the kitchen at night, the bedroom would sometimes become abnormally cold in a matter of moments, and an unpleasant odor would occasionally appear out of nowhere. Remembering the movie "Paranormal Activity" she'd recently watched, Irina decided not to wait for the supernatural to fully manifest itself and begged her husband to find another apartment. At first, he was reluctant, but after a couple of sleepless nights, he agreed like a dear.
