New building
My family lives in a five-story building slated for demolition. Last year, we were given an apartment in the new building, but they didn't give us the keys right away, so we lived in the old apartment for a year while the new one was being renovated. In a couple of days, we'll finally move into the new apartment. Naturally, no one lives in the apartment yet, so I invited a couple of friends over, one with his girlfriend. We got some food and beer and started watching comedies on the brand-new plasma TV. We went to bed late, but not too late...
That night, I woke up to a noise reminiscent of dull thuds. The sounds were coming from the storage room. And the storage room is huge—almost half of my room—and there's nothing in there yet, except for pillows and rugs. I thought my friend and girlfriend had gone off to a private retreat. I was about to loudly sneer at them and go back to sleep, when I heard a girl's voice nearby: "What's that? Do you hear that?" We were all there, and we were all horrified. We assumed it might be the neighbors, even though few people had moved in yet, and continued trying to sleep.
Then the bedroom door slammed and we heard the distinct sound of footsteps in the hallway. Even us guys panicked, let alone the girl... We didn't turn on the light—for some reason, we were afraid it would attract "their" attention. We sat there cuddling, using our cell phones for light, until five in the morning, when it was already getting light. We'd relaxed and started to smile—like, what idiots we were—when suddenly there was another knock on the pantry door and the same rapid footsteps in the hallway.
