The first snow fell. By morning, the entire neighborhood was white. So, Strawberry decided to have a day of fun in the snow. Right after breakfast, he ran to Funia and Wesołek.
Together they pulled the sled out of the basement and went to Strawberry Hill. It was truly a blast. White fluff continued to fall from the sky, and the shining midday sun reflected off the snow on the ground. Suddenly, Funia shouted,
"Let's make a snowman! We'll make a big one. I'll run home for a carrot and a top hat.
" "And I'll put my scarf on him," said the enthusiastic Strawberry.
"Well, I'll look for some eye stones and go to Grandpa's for a broom," added Wesołek.
The little friends scattered in different directions to find the necessary supplies for building a snowman. Half an hour later, they found themselves back at the foot of the hill. All the necessary supplies were in place. They could begin rolling snowballs. Wesołek and Poziomek decided to build a snowman's body, while Funia was to make its head.
Suddenly, Wesołek had a new idea – he started throwing snowballs at Funia. She returned them in kind. Not only Poziomek joined the "battle," but also Mądruj, a passing boy. The battle slowly escalated into a full-blown war, which Funia, the only girl, lost.
Exhausted and freezing, they decided to finish building the snowman as quickly as possible and go to Mrs. Bunia's for hot chocolate.
The snowman was beautiful. It stood enormous, white, with a red nose, wearing a black top hat and Poziomek's woolen scarf, and holding a broom in its "hand." The children were truly proud of themselves. But also terribly cold.
Mrs. Bunia was overjoyed at the visit of her little neighbors.
"Oh, children. You have no idea how much I love it when you visit me," she said over hot chocolate and delicious butter cookies.
"Mrs. Bunia, tell us a fairy tale," Bunia asked. "You tell such a beautiful story."
"Oh yes, please," Wise Man chimed in.
"Okay, okay, okay. What should I tell you about? Oh, I know. Some time ago, in a distant land where long-eared gnomes lived, snow fell, as it does in winter. One of the younger gnomes, named Kropek, was very sad. He didn't like winter because he thought it was very sad. However, he loved spring—the blooming flowers, the singing birds, and the warm sun. Suddenly, he had a wonderful idea. He took out colored paper, scissors, and glue, and began gluing flowers. When he was finished, he put on his hat, scarf, and jacket and went out to the orchard. He arranged flowers cut out of colored paper on the dried tree branches. The orchard suddenly changed. It was no longer depressing. It became cheerful and joyful. When his mother saw the results of the little elf's work, she gave her son some delicious pudding. The end.
"That's lovely, Mrs. Bunia. You have a real talent for telling stories. Thank you very much. And for the chocolate. And for the cookies, too. I think we have to go now. See you later.
" "Goodbye, children."
The children went home. Strawberry ate dinner and went to bed. When he woke up, he had a fever and a sore throat. Well, he finally gave his scarf to the snowman…"
