According to Escamilla's definition, rods are "cigar-shaped or cylindrical objects that move at high speeds, impossible to see with the naked eye. They appear to move through the air much like marine fish do. They may have wings or appendages along their torsos, and the torso bends during flight." Escamilla has several video clips and photos of these creatures on his website.
Rods grow to a few to several centimeters in length and have several types of appendages. They have been sighted and filmed in Mexico, the US states of Arizona, New Mexico, California, South Dakota, Connecticut, and Sweden. Some rods have been observed underwater. Are these unknown species? If so, why haven't anyone seen them yet?
