I Ching
There are certain problems with prophecy. And they intensify when we consider a related discipline, divination. A typical example of divination is the ancient Chinese I Ching system, which was most likely developed by the ruler Fu Shi but was completely unknown in our circles until modern times.
In this system, an offshoot of Taoism, there is no past, present, or future. There is only life energy, ch'i, and its opposing forces of creation and destruction, yin and yang. While reviewing the "Book of Changes," the fortune teller might toss 50 yarrow sticks or three coins three times.
