Six years ago, I went into the forest with some friends for a picnic (we were 14 at the time). Egor found a great spot by the lake. There were eight of us (four boys and four girls). We were having a great time, playing music. Evening came, we pitched our tents, lit a fire, and started telling stories. As the moon rose, each couple began to retreat. Dasha and I walked deeper into the forest, but the shore was still visible out of the corner of my eye. I'll skip over what we did there. When it was over, we lay down under a tree and watched the stars. I felt so light and happy that I felt like I could fly.
Suddenly we heard screams coming from the lake. We quickly got ourselves together and went to see what had happened. When Dasha and I approached the camp, we saw the broken tents and Yulia crying by the fire. Her mascara was running, and her face was pale, like a ghost. Seeing us, she rushed toward us, tears streaming down her face, muttering something incoherently. Meanwhile, the other couples began to approach. Everyone was there, except Yegor.
Finally, Yulia was able to explain more or less coherently that someone had dragged Yegor into the lake. Edik and I immediately jumped into the water to rescue our friend. It was almost impossible to see anything in the water at night, but the moonlight allowed us to see a little of the bottom (the lake was shallow).
Suddenly, Edik started to go under. Without thinking, I swam to him and began to pull him to shore. It turned out that Edik was holding Yegor's leg, who had already turned completely blue. Blood was pouring from his leg. On shore, we performed CPR as best we could and squeezed his stomach and chest to "pump out" the water. Eventually, we managed to bring him back to life. We wrapped my sweatshirt, soaked in vodka, around Yegor's leg and went to bed.
We all woke up early—Yegor had become ill. We quickly abandoned our camp and carried him into town. We stopped at my house and called an ambulance. The doctors immediately took him to the hospital. We were later told that Yegor had pneumonia.
Yegor spent a week in quarantine and eventually began to recover. Two weeks later, we all gathered at Yegor's house for a serious conversation about that night. He was reluctant to tell us anything for a long time, but eventually he finally told us what had happened. As he and Yulia were falling asleep by the lake, someone suddenly pulled his leg. Yegor began to resist. Eventually, they knocked down all the tents. According to Yegor, it was a man with very pale skin and long, wet hair. He couldn't remember what happened when the man finally dragged him into the lake.
