We will understand the thoughts of animals," says Daniel Pauly, director of the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. "In my opinion, the most important achievement that awaits us in the next 50 years will be the creation of a device that will allow us to detect, amplify, and transmit the emotions and 'thoughts' of animals in such a way that it evokes similar emotions and thoughts in the human mind. We will probably succeed in doing this first with the thoughts of primates, then other mammals, and finally other vertebrates, including fish. For obvious reasons, such an invention will mean that people around the world will no longer desire to eat any meat, and we will all become vegetarians."
