Iryna Zarucka (translated as Iryna Zarutska ) was a 23-year-old refugee from Ukraine who was murdered in the U.S. Her tragic death shocked the public in late August 2025. Just days later, dozens of spirit box videos appeared on YouTube, in which Iryna's alleged ghost described details of the attack.
Channels like HOPE Paranormal and Cody ITC gave sensational titles to the recordings: " It Was n't Easy, But SHE CAME! " or "I COULDN'T EVEN RUN!" – suggesting that Zarucka's spirit was recounting her attempts to escape from a knife-wielding attacker. In the descriptions, the creators claimed that "her soul appeared and spoke of her final moments . "
The recordings sparked a mixture of fascination and outrage – many people, especially in the US, considered them completely inappropriate in the face of such a recent tragedy. Mainstream media commented that they were "preying on the victim" and a heartless sensation. Unfortunately, the videos spread quickly on social media. Word of these "messages" eventually reached Iryna's loved ones – their reaction was shock and anger; in a statement, they asked that the girl's memory be respected and unverified information about her not be disseminated. Despite this, the recordings continue to circulate online, garnering hundreds of thousands of views.
Another case involves Jason Ethier (the creator of the ImJayStation channel) and alleged messages from deceased rappers (2018–2019) . Canadian YouTuber ImJayStation became famous for a series of videos in which he allegedly contacted the spirits of recently deceased artists. After the death of rapper XXXTentacion (who was shot dead in the street in June 2018), he recorded a video of a late-night session, where the rapper's spirit allegedly responded to the radio.few months later, after the drug overdoses of 21-year-old rapper Lil Peep and 26-year-old Mac Miller , ImJayStation repeated the format, posting videos like "RIP Mac Miller Spirit Box at 3AM – He Speaks About Ariana ." The latter, in particular, sparked a wave of criticism. Internet users en masse expressed disgust, writing, "This is YouTube's lowest point, he should be ashamed of himself," indicating that instead of honoring the artist's memory, the YouTuber exploited his death for views .
Viewers organized a petition to have his channel shut down. Prominent online commentators (e.g., Keemstar of DramaAlert) publicly stigmatized him. ImJayStation defended himself, saying he considered it "just entertainment" and that many of the recordings were real, as he personally believed in EVP. Ultimately, his channel was shut down by YouTube a few years later (though mainly for other antics), and the creator himself became a symbol of cynical exploitation of others' deaths for personal gain.

"Thanks" to internet content creators, Michael Jackson still cannot find the peace he longs for 16 years after his death
