Ingredients
Butter 450g
Sugar 120g
Vanilla extract 2 tsp
Vanilla pod 1
Egg 6
Condensed milk 510g
Flour 240g
Salt 1/2 tsp
Prunes
Preheat the oven to 230°C. Line a cake tin with parchment paper. Place the lined, empty tin in the oven for a couple of minutes to preheat.
Whisk the butter with sugar until fluffy. Add the vanilla bean seeds to the batter (don't throw away the empty pod—you can place it in a jar with sugar for flavor).
Crack one whole egg at a time into the batter and add the vanilla extract. Stir the batter after each egg. Pour in the condensed milk.
Pour the sifted flour and salt into the batter and mix. You'll need enough batter for 9-10 layers, so take this into account when filling the pan. You'll need to bake one layer at a time if you only have one pan.
Turn on the broiler in your oven. Pour some of the batter into the pan. Bake one layer for 5-7 minutes with the broiler on, until golden brown. Remove the baked cake, place it on a serving plate, and pour in another portion of batter, repeating for all 9-10 layers. Between layers 2-3, 5-6, 8-9 (or any other combination), sprinkle prunes on the raw batter before baking.
Once all the layers are baked, place them together in a baking pan, turn off the grill, and bake in the oven at 180°C for 10-15 minutes to dry out slightly. Cool and serve.
