Reconstruction of the Ningen's appearance

Japanese cryptozoologists have reported sightings in the waters of the Pacific Ocean near Antarctica of an unusual creature called a ningen. The name means "human" in Japanese, as the large creature resembles a cross between a whale and a human. Japanese fishermen have also repeatedly sighted the creature. According to descriptions, the ningen (also known as "Hitogata") is white, approximately 20 to 30 meters long, with a pseudohuman face and a humanoid form, adapted to life in water. The ningen has been filmed and photographed several times (at least three films exist, one of which is included in this article) and has been used to create a composite portrait of it.Not your typical sea monster, opinions vary. One hypothesis holds that the Ningen is a hominid that, like cetaceans, migrated from land to water, where it evolved and gave rise to tales of mermaids and other humanoid creatures. Another hypothesis suggests that the Ningen is actually a giant stingray. Some cryptozoologists, however, claim that the Ningen is nothing more than a modern legend created on the internet.

Despite this, reports of Ningen sightings continue to emerge. The matter has been taken seriously enough by the Japanese government, which has dispatched a research team to Antarctica to verify the Ningen sightings and possibly capture a live specimen.
