Korovka" Candies

Ingredients
Milk 500 ml
Milk powder 200 ml
Sugar 600 ml
Butter 100 g

Mix all ingredients (excluding butter) in a heavy saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly. Cook until the mixture begins to brown and thicken slightly – you've got homemade condensed milk. This will take about 1 hour.

Add the butter and continue cooking. After a while, you'll see a soft, creamy mixture that's perfect for frosting cakes. Be careful not to overcook it.
Continue cooking until the mixture darkens in color and thickens.

 We test for doneness using the "drip-ball" method: drop a small drop onto a cool surface and roll it into a ball. If it rolls easily without sticking to your fingers, it's ready. Place the mixture on parchment paper and roll it out with a rolling pin, trimming off any uneven areas. Cut into squares.
