Love, love and love again...

It was a normal, cold Monday. The girls, as usual, had gone to school well before their classes. They wanted to talk. They sat on the windowsill on the second floor.
"You, have you seen that boy?" Aśka said.
"I have, what about you?
" "No, nothing, he's cool, right?"
"I don't know? He's just like everyone else. He doesn't stand out in the crowd.
" "What do you mean?! I noticed him, even though there are so many people milling around here, like at a market.
" "Oh no. You don't know anything, that's all," Gośka joked. "
I don't know anything?! You don't know anything!!
Okay, that's the end of the story. You like him, but I don't, period."
"You're awful!! I've had enough of you.
" "Aśka, don't get upset. What's possessing you?
" "Nothing's possessing me!! Leave me alone, do you understand?!
And Aśka jumped off the windowsill. Then she ran like crazy down the hall, crying.
"Aśkaaa!!! Wait!!!" Gośka shouted, but Aśka didn't hear her.
Aśka suddenly stopped in the middle of the hallway and wondered where she was running. She quickly wiped her tears and decided to try talking to Gośka after all.
"Why did you get offended, huh?! Do you want to ruin our friendship?! If you're with some guy, you'll run away too, because you have no intention of solving problems, right?! Is that your plan?! You could have just said you didn't want to be friends with me anymore!! But you chose to blame everything on me like that?! That was your plan?! Then you know you succeeded!!
"Gośka!! It's not like that!! You don't understand...
" "Well, maybe I don't want to understand that my only friend betrayed me!"
Suddenly, the bell rang for class, and the girls entered the classroom. Even though they were sitting together, they didn't speak to each other...
The teacher announced a school disco. The girls were planning to stay away because they didn't want to meet. Joasia changed at the last minute and went to the disco. The girls met in the gym, even though neither was supposed to go. They thought things over and decided to reconcile. The party was a success, especially since Gosia met Michał. They were captivated. He saw only her, and she only saw him. They danced together and were inseparable. They did everything together. They walked home. They walked around school holding hands. But one day, she saw him with another girl.
Exactly a year had passed since their breakup. During an argument, she'd punched him in the face in anger. Everything had been so beautiful. It had happened at a ball. Her world had spun before her eyes. She refused to listen to Michał's explanations. She'd run out of the ball and gone straight to her parents' house. She couldn't imagine either of them being alone. She felt betrayed. Her sister was supposed to leave her only a ring. Gosia didn't want to see him again. That was supposed to be the end. Michał tried to contact her, but she didn't answer his calls or letters, and avoided mutual friends. All she heard was that he'd left, devastated... Gosia fled to work, thinking it would stifle her longing and kill her love. Her friends told her she'd become bitter and cold, that her attitude repelled everyone. Gosia saw Michał's departure as an escape from her. He was terrified of the responsibility and fled. Yet not a day went by without her thinking about him. She promised herself she'd finally forget, stop feeling sorry for herself, and start living again without him. The first step towards self-improvement was the ball. She decided to finally come out of hiding and show what she was capable of. It was supposed to be her first night out in a year, since she broke up with Michał. She went alone, but she had a great time. She also accepted an invitation from a photographer she'd met. She had no idea he was a friend of her old boyfriend's. She also didn't know he'd invite him too. So when she saw her love, her legs gave out under her. He, too, froze. He whispered something to the blonde with whom he was standing at the table, and a moment later he was standing next to Gosia. He begged her not to run away this time. He asked for a dance, claiming she owed him that much since they hadn't finished the previous one. Suddenly, she offered him her hand. As they danced, Michał whispered about love in the same breath in her ear. He spoke quickly, as if afraid that when the music stopped, he would run away again. Forever. He realized he couldn't live without her when she wasn't near. He couldn't write a single word. He gave up after two months, because it all made no sense. He begged her for another chance. Gosia smiled at him, and when the music faded, she whispered, "Don't go, this dance doesn't have to be our last..."
It was a cold December day. The girls were walking home together. Aśka was slipping on the sidewalk. Suddenly, her foot flew backward, and Joasia bumped into a stranger. It was Krzysiek. He had dark hair and blue eyes. Something immediately sparked between them. They looked into each other's eyes. They didn't say anything, just stood there, rooted to the snow, clinging to each other. They wanted to say something, but words failed them. Their eyes glittered with fire. Nothing was as beautiful as that fiery gaze. It was love at first sight.
"I'm sorry," Aśka managed to choke out.
"Nothing happened."
After a while, they exchanged numbers. They were dating. They were a beautiful couple. Gosia was dating Michał, and Asia was dating Krzysiek. It was time for another meeting. The day promised to be wonderful. And it didn't matter in the slightest that it had rained all night and turned into a nasty drizzle in the morning. For Aśka, the sun was still shining, and all thanks to Krzysiek. He wasn't the romantic type, so when he invited her to a candlelit dinner, she was a bit surprised. At first, his behavior left her with mixed feelings – after all, he'd always been rather quiet and distant, and then suddenly, sweet words, a rose, thousands of kisses... Asia decided that Krzysiek had finally understood what a treasure he possessed and wanted to repay him for all those months. And that was why she woke up, as happy as a lark, and decided to surprise her beloved with an unannounced visit. She put on the white pants that Krzysiek adored and went to the store to buy his favorite chocolates. Asia couldn't wait to see her beloved – she wondered if he'd be as sweet and romantic for her today as he had been last night. She wanted to thank him so much for those moments that she practically ran… The expression on her face when he opened the door was completely different from the image she'd had in her head. Krzysiek wasn't just unhappy; it seemed as if he'd seen a ghost, or rather, an unwanted guest. They were standing there, with the door open, when suddenly a cheerful girl's voice emanated from his room. The girl said, "Miśku, I can't find that CD... Will you help me?" Asia knew no friend would call Krzysiek that, so she pushed him away and entered the apartment. A pretty brunette was sitting in the room, and from her demeanor, it was clear she wasn't the first time she'd been there and was feeling unusually comfortable. "Hi, I'm Edyta – Krzysztof's girlfriend. And you?" "—she said in a very friendly tone, extending her hand to greet Asia, who simply burst into tears. It was already clear why he was behaving so strangely. It wasn't love, but simple remorse. Asia explained to Edyta who she was, or rather, who she had been until recently. Both of them—tears and furious—left the apartment, slamming the door. They had been deceived and had no intention of seeing the face of this liar any longer. They began to recount how they had met Krzysiek and hadn't noticed the large truck driving into the middle of a puddle. Dirty water drenched the girls, thoroughly covering Agnieszka's white trousers and Edyta's light coat with disgusting mud. They decided that nothing worse could happen today and ran home to dry off. Dressed in warm sweatpants, they sipped tea served by Edyta's likable brother, who constantly threatened the boy who had hurt the two girls so badly. Asia suffered much more because she had known Krzysiek for almost a year, but she decided that she would not despair over a man who was unable to respect her feelings.Edyta had only met him a month ago, or rather, he'd taken an interest in her, assuring her that he'd had enough of being alone after his girlfriend left him. After a long conversation with her new friends, Asia returned home in a better mood than when she'd left that bastard. The next morning, the sun was shining, but Asia didn't feel like getting up. She was alone, and the prospect of spending the weekend alone wasn't helping her regain her happiness. When the phone rang, she jumped up and ran to answer it. To her surprise, the male voice she heard on the other end resembled Radek's. He invited her and his sister for a huge ice cream to forget about that bastard. However, he didn't bring Edyta to the meeting, but a bouquet of daisies and the assurance that he wouldn't be able to hurt such a wonderful girl...
Aśka and Gośka didn't have any summer plans. The school year was over. The girls still had boyfriends. Gosia decided to go with Michał. It was supposed to be the best vacation ever. For both her and him. They decided to go somewhere together. Finally, they managed to save up some money and convinced their parents that since they'd been together for a year, they had the right to go together. They were both so happy... Just the day before he was supposed to go to his aunt's for a week, he received a letter. A very sad letter. It said they couldn't be together anymore because she had someone she loved very much. That she couldn't look him in the eye when he was with someone else behind his back. It was a long letter. She even wrote when they met, saying things were good, but he needed her more. He read it several times. When she called, he hung up. He didn't want to hear her explanations. She could have just said she had someone else instead of sending a letter. Why hadn't he realized? Since she'd been with him for a month? It was strange. He didn't understand much of it. The same evening he received the letter, he packed his bags and drove 200 km to his aunt's. He told his parents he was going for more than a week, perhaps even two months. He didn't want to tell his parents why he'd canceled his plans to go with his girlfriend – even though they'd worked so hard to save up the money. His parents knew something bad had happened. However, since he wouldn't talk, they didn't ask him any more questions. She had no idea why he wouldn't talk to her. Maybe he was offended because he'd seen her with another man? But he was her cousin. He knew him and knew he was coming. Or maybe he didn't recognize him? These questions tormented her, wanting to know what had happened. She kept calling him, but no one answered. She knew he was going to his aunt's, but he was supposed to meet her and say goodbye, and then return six days later. And two weeks had already passed. She couldn't take it anymore. She went to see him. To his parents. She was lucky, because they had just returned from vacation. She asked them for their address. She couldn't believe he'd broken up with her without a word. It wasn't like him. And so she decided to explain the whole thing. He missed her. He wanted to call her, ask her to reconsider. But the fear of her rejection was too great. He didn't dare. He wanted to see her so badly, to kiss her. But since she had another man, it would be easier for him to forget here, hundreds of miles away. At least he wouldn't see them... When he was returning from the store, he saw her. He thought he was having hallucinations, that it wasn't her... She came to him with tears in her eyes and simply said, "Why?" He told her about the letter, about how he couldn't understand why she was cheating on him. She was surprised to find out she hadn't sent any letter. She thought he'd broken up with her, left without a word. But she couldn't let it go. She wanted to know the reason. They went home. He showed her the letter. Yes, almost everything was correct: how they met, that she loved him,They'd been together for a year. Everything else, and of course, the handwriting—it was similar, but this letter was written by another girl, to another boy. The address was smudged on the envelope. She must have been crying as she wrote. The postman misread the addressee. It was the happiest day of their lives. Such a mistake, such misfortune. He apologized for not wanting to talk to her and for leaving without a word. She regretted not going to see him sooner. They did spend that vacation together. However, they weren't the only lucky ones. The girl who sent the letter was deceived. The boy she left her true love for turned out to be a liar. It wasn't true that he was very ill and didn't have many years left to live. She didn't write the whole truth in that letter. She couldn't write that she was only with him because she felt sorry for him. However, fate wanted her to know the truth about the cheater. When he was supposed to be in a sanatorium, she saw him in the city with another girl. They didn't look like siblings. Then she decided she had to apologize to her boyfriend, explain, and ask for forgiveness. He was surprised when she told him about the letter. They hadn't been seeing each other because he was busy, and they'd agreed that he'd call her when he had time. But the letter? When she told him the truth—about the sick, poor boy, about the letter, about her remorse—he smiled, hugged her, and told her to go straight to him with any future matters. After all, love forgives all...
Asia met a friend... It was a boy, and she connected with him immediately. He began visiting her, at first under any pretext, but sometimes just to see her. Day by day, he grew closer to her. After a while, she noticed she couldn't imagine a day without his visits. When he sometimes didn't come,
she felt as if time had stood still and there was no chance of change. As if everything would always be the same. And she wanted more, wanted everything. After a while, she began to notice little things she hadn't noticed before. He had never invited her to his place. She only knew from his stories what it was like at his house. Sometimes he opened the door so she could see the interior, but only from a distance. She decided to go in. She tried to influence him to let her in, but he wouldn't let her in. The boy realized she was someone worthy of his attention. However, he still refused to let her in, so he decided to run away from her. To see someone else. He told her that someone had recently lost the key to his gate. The girl decided to talk to the boy:
"My gate is always open to you. You come and go whenever you want. But you never invited me to yours. My gate is slowly starting to close.
It's closing day by day. From meeting to meeting, the space you could always walk through is shrinking. Soon it will be so small that you'll never get through again
. If you don't give me back what I gave of myself, it may be too late. Running away won't help, because if you're gone, the gate closes faster. Make up your mind... if the gate slams shut, you'll be the one who threw away the key, but you won't
remember where. You won't find it."
A few months passed, the gate slammed shut, and the boy...
Kamil was a handsome, young boy. Any girl would give anything just to see his beautiful green eyes and to touch his always-shining, neck-length brown hair. The boy preferred reading books and hanging out with his friends to asking a girl out. Sure, he had a few friends he got along with, but he never showed them anything more than friendship.
It was a sunny July morning. As usual, after waking up, Kamil washed up, ate breakfast, and fed the dog. Then he read a book for a while, but not for long. He'd arranged to meet Adam at the gym and had to get ready. He didn't quite understand his excitement at seeing him.
"It's probably because I haven't seen him in ages," he thought.
Adam had been Kamil's friend since kindergarten, and they were rarely apart. Now he'd returned from a two-week trip to the seaside and was also looking forward to the reunion.
The boys arrived for training on time. As soon as they saw each other, they hugged each other brotherly, and Kamil asked,
"So, how did you like it by the sea!?" "
Like, by the sea. A bit boring, but I survived. So what? Are we going in, or are we just going to stand there?
" "We're going in, we're going in ."
After two hours of training, they decided to go to one of the nearby cafes.
They drank coffee, chatted for a while, and went home.
The next day, Kamil was visited by one of his friends. When he opened the door, she was speechless with delight. Kamil was only in his shorts. His strongly muscled abs and arms were the center of attention.
"Małgosia… I wasn't expecting you. Come on in, I'll get dressed right away.
" "Come on! You don't have to! I don't mind.
" "Okay, then I won't put on a shirt, heh. What would you like to drink?"
"Water is fine."
Kamil led the girl to his room and handed her a drink.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked jokingly.
"Nothing special... what?? Can't you visit old friends?"
"Of course you can! I'm so glad you came!"
And so began a long conversation about books, holidays, and new acquaintances...
"So? Did you meet any cool girls on this vacation?" Małgosia asked with a mysterious smile.
"Nooooo... and you any guys?"
"Not either." The girl slowly began to bring her lips closer to the boy's. Kamil turned his head, however.
"Would you like some more water?" He asked, trying to salvage the situation
. "Come on, Kamil. We're twelve already. At that age, you should be able to say straight out that you don't like me!" The girl turned her back to the confused boy.
"I like you!! Absolutely, but..."
"Do you have someone else after all?
" "Not really. You just deserve someone else!
" "But I don't want anyone else!" She approached the boy again.
"Wait….. I…… I just can't.
" "Okay…. As you wish. But remember, if anything changes, I'll always…
" "Okay, thank you," he cut the girl off.
"I'll be going now." She gave the boy a kiss on the cheek and left. The boy sat there for a moment, wondering what he was doing. After all, Małgosia was pretty, smart, kind, and above all, she liked him. But something was putting him off her, but he didn't know what.
Gosia and Asia decided to go on holiday with a travel agency that had posted offers at their school. They signed up and, after paying a certain amount, waited for the trip. A few days later, the girls were waiting at the meeting point for all the participants. A boy immediately caught Asia's eye. Gosia spotted a man, no older than 14... he was constantly talking to the trip organizers. He boarded the bus with them. When they arrived, two rather young men were waiting for them, and the third was the one who had boarded the bus with them. It turned out they were the teachers. Gosia and Asia ended up in the one from the bus. The teacher's name was Krzysiek and he was 20 years old. They were assigned a double room with a bathroom, but... next to the teacher. They were in the middle of unpacking when someone gently knocked on their door. They shouted,
"Come in!"
"Sorry, girls, but it's dinner time..." He said it very shyly... she and he went down to the cafeteria.
Asia had been hitting on this guy she'd liked since they arrived at the meeting. She'd already learned his name was Grzesiek. After dinner, Gosia went to take a shower. She hadn't heard Krzysiek arrive. She came out in just a towel and was speechless when she saw him. Neither of them said a word. Only Aśka broke the tension:
"Gośka, get dressed or you'll be sick." Gosia immediately grabbed her pajamas and disappeared behind the bathroom door. When she came out, Krzysiek was still sitting on her bed as if nothing had happened. They talked for a while about planned trips and the next day. They simply called him "Krzysiek." He'd suggested it himself... He was only two years older, so he didn't feel so old, as he himself admitted. The next day at 8 a.m., someone quietly knocked on the door. Asia opened it. It was Krzysiek:
wake up call," he whispered.
"This early... Gosia will never get up this early, she never gets up," Aśka tried to explain. Krzysiek thought for a moment and said,
"If you wake her up, tell her there's a surprise waiting for her for getting up." He smiled mischievously and went to wake the others. Asia knew Krzysiek had caught Gosia's eye, so she tried to break the news to her. It wasn't easy, because Ewa was sleeping soundly, but eventually it dawned on her that there would be a surprise. Then she jumped up and was ready to leave within minutes. At breakfast, Krzysiek was staring at Gosia. Gosia pretended not to notice, but towards the end of the meal, Aśka pointed out to her,
"Look, Krzysiek is staring at you the whole time."
After breakfast, they went shopping. They bought sweets and something to drink. In the afternoon, Krzysiek knocked on their door, and when Asia opened the door, he said to Gosia:
A surprise awaited in the next room.
He didn't have to wait long for a reaction. She jumped out of bed and went to see what the surprise was. She'd forgotten that the next room was the teacher's room, but when she remembered, it was too late.
"So what? Did you find a surprise?" She heard Krzysiek's voice behind her.
"No, exactly," she tried to explain.
"Why didn't you tell him you liked me?" he asked, standing behind her.
Ewa turned, looked at him, and ran out of the room. She stormed into her own and started shouting at Asia:
"Why did you tell him that?? You ruined everything!!!!" She
was clearly very upset. Asia didn't know what was going on and finally asked:
"Gośka, what are you talking about?" There was a question in her voice.
"What do you mean, what?? You told Krzywek I liked him!" She practically screamed at Asia.
"I don't know anything and I didn't say anything..." her friend tried to explain.
Gośka ran out of the room. She sat down in a chair by the cafeteria and thought about what had happened. She didn't feel herself fall asleep. She was awakened by someone's touch, very gentle, and whispers: Gosia... wake up... Come to your room... it's late... She opened her eyes and it was Krzysiek... He was kneeling beside her, trying to wake her up.
"I've been looking for you all over the facility... why did you run out like that?" He tried to ask gently.
"It was supposed to be different..." She whispered .
"But what was it supposed to be?" He didn't understand.
"Aśka wasn't supposed to say that..." she tried to explain.
"But Aśka didn't tell me anything... I just wanted to check if my intuition was correct," he smiled.
He kissed her on the cheek and they left. The next day, immediately after breakfast, Krzysiek called Gosia to her room. Nervously, she knocked. After a few seconds, he opened the door for her. She sat down on the bed, unsure of what to say.
"Since you didn't let me get a word in edgewise, I have to say it now," he said, rather shyly. "I like you... From the first day..." he almost stuttered.
Gosia was so shocked she could have jumped for joy. He kissed her both times on the lips, and for quite a while. From then on, they spent their free time together. In the evenings, they either sat in Gosia's room or at his. They didn't show it on the outside, but they were very much in love. And it wasn't just a "winter" love...

Zuzia! No!" exploded in her head. The woman's hand trembled. The perfectly practiced, disabling blow missed. The pistol...
