The two types of cryptids mentioned above can be called "alleged" cryptids. These "proper" cryptids are the ones cryptozoologists most readily study, and they evoke a thrill in many. This third type comprises animals whose existence is unconfirmed by zoology, meaning those that remain unknown to it or should have been extinct long ago. Fierce disputes often ensue over these, as most zoologists claim that, when it comes to large animals, virtually all species have already been discovered, while cryptozoologists are merely chasing cheap sensationalism and discrediting their work. Currently, the most famous cases studied by cryptozoologists are, of course, the Loch Ness Monster, the Congolese Mokele-Mbembe, the South American Chupacabra, the Yeti, Bigfoot (Sasquatch), and many others. I will attempt to address the above-mentioned in my upcoming articles.

For many, cryptozoology is not just a hobby or interest, but a way of life. However, these days, many enthusiasts are reaching the sad conclusion that unless something is done to halt the destruction of our natural environment, many of the species hunted by cryptozoologists will disappear from the face of the Earth before they are discovered...
