Therefore, we conclude that any animal we suspect might be an unknown dog may not be. The beasts that died on the roads of Louisiana and Maine were also not so unusual. The former, dark-colored, with a surprisingly short muzzle, small ears, and a thickly furred tail, were killed on a busy highway. DNA testing revealed that the latter was a genuine mutt. The latter was merely some kind of dog resembling a Newfoundland. Every week, reports emerge from around the world of countless unexplained cases of strangely deformed dogs, diseased foxes or coyotes, or deranged individuals who, disguised as mythical beasts, wanted to perpetuate their ever-living legend. It seems to me that such cases should be classified as veterinary medicine or psychiatry, not cryptozoology.
